Whoever wants to succeed in this world and hereafter must follow the footsteps of Rasulullah (S.A.W) in such a way that your personality is closely related to the principles of Islam and in a way that anyone who've read his Seerah can actually tell that you're indeed a follower of this great man (S.A.W) action and character wise because he is indeed a great example for all of us to follow.
Pursuing and practising the example of the man who's the seal of prophets (May the peace and blessings of Allah swt be upon them all) , the one who've brought the Quran to us and the one our Rabb Has ordained us to follow cultivates our characters in many different ways ; if you ponder over the five pillars of Islam you'll naturally develop a beautiful personality because Islam is full of personality development as Islam puts a lot of emphasis on our characters than our appearance and it's the character of Rasulullah (S.A.W) that makes Islam very practicable because Rasulullah (S.A.W) was a sublime example in his interactions with all kinds of people , with the animals and the environment as well.
Rasulullah (S.A.W) was blessed with qualities of outmost perfection and absolutely noble characteristics which exquisitely distinguished him from all other human beings and he (S.A.W) also possessed all the possible virtuous of human traits which made him the best leading example known to mankind in treating others with benevolence
so for you to follow the commands of your Rabb you must first follow His messenger because Allah swt used Rasulullah (S.A.W) to deliver the very commands to begin with as it's through him that we've got the Quran so how does this develop our personality?
The following Ayat and Hadith summarises the personality of the man whom you're told to follow .
Look at the marvellous description of the man who Allah swt describes as the best , the one who Allah's words were revealed to and the one that Allah swt describes as
وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلى خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ
'And verily, you (O Muhammad (صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم) are on an exalted standard of character.'(Al-Qalam 68:4)
No any other prophet (May the peace and blessings of Allah swt be upon them all) received such descriptions of a personal character than Rasulullah (PBUH).
"We know indeed that what they say certainly grieves you, but surely they do not call you a liar; but the unjust deny the verses of God." (Qur'an 6:33)
Allah Himself testifies about this great attribute observed in the personality of Rasulullah(PBUH) so if we're following the man whom Allah swt Has given such a beautiful descriptions our personality will naturally be developed in such way that such qualities becomes our natural disposition.
Aisha (RA) was once asked to describe the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and she replied "كان خلقه القرآن"
(he was 'the Qur'an walking) this simple response explains a lot and it basically means that his behavior was literally the Qur'an translated into action so if you follow him accordingly your character will be beautified and resemble closely to that of Rasulullah (S.A.W).
Islam hasn't reached where it's reached by dictatorship but rather by the beautiful personality of Rasulullah (PBUH) and his behaviour towards all the living creatures and always did his very best to serve as a guiding principle to others by acting upon Allah's teachings Himself first.
There are thousands of incidents in his life that describes his personality which all contribute to the development of the most beautiful characteristics.
