After the Governor had shot those people, and after Rick and the group had found out what the Governor had done, they made a plan to stay at the prison. The prison was safer than it was being outside, where the walkers could get to you. Although, Andrea had spent months on her own a few years ago, before Merle had found her, and although Merle had spent even longer being out there on his own, before Woodbury and the Governor, Merle and Andrea decided that it would be them that would go hunt down and kill the Governor. After all the attacks the Governor had done on them, Andrea and Merle were both ready to do anything to take him down, no matter what. And, after months of being in the prison with the group, and when they'd both lived at Woodbury for a time, they'd grown closer to one another. She no longer hated or despised him for the things she knew that he'd done, as well as the things that he'd once called her. She was still a somewhat challenge with him, though. And that would probably never change. And so, Merle and Andrea packed bags and left in a car, searching for Philip.

While Andrea and Merle were on their journey, unbeknownst to them, since they were miles away, the walkers they had tried to keep out of the prison, had found their way inside, when a few of the residence they'd saved from Woodbury had gotten sick and died. They tried to contain it, but that didn't work out as planned. Especially, when the walkers outside piled up so badly enough that the chainlinked fences couldn't hold together anymore. And so, even though they didn't want to, they abandoned the prison.
