Elijah

I look back to see nothing but mist. Skylar vanished. I can feel a wave of worry spread across my face.

    "Skylar!" I call.

The silence is scary. I run back to find nothing. I search in every building I see, but it's no use. Finding Skylar would be like trying to stand on a cloud.

"What do we have here?" I hear from behind me.

Turning around, I see a crowd of men. They are standing so straight and firm, it's hard to tell if they are human or not.

"Where is Skylar?" I question firmly.

All I can hear is their snickering. They look over at each other as if someone had told a joke.

"That information is classified," one of them smirks. "Bring him in."

He snaps and twitches his head as if signaling the others. They all start crowding around me.

I run for my life, but it's no use. They are much faster. They all tower over me, and in an instant, I am too crushed to move.

"You're coming with me, " he claims.

It's more like they are taking me. My arms are cuffed and my breath is quick. I try to let myself free, but I am knocked from consciousness.

.......

I look around to see a building enclosing me. The roof towers over my head. The white walls are blinding. Nothing but silence fills the air.

I holler and carry on, but the room only echoes in my tantrum. I need to find Skylar--she is probably scared to death. I scan my arms, which are tied down by a rope. An idea occurs to me that I should rub the rope rapidly on the metal chair to free my hands. Doing so, I feel the heat from the friction splashing against my arms. I scrunch my face up and watch to make sure the guards aren't coming. It looks pretty dark outside, so I doubt they are even here.

"Man, I wish I hadn't had teased her," I pity myself.

I look up to see that the day is gone and the crickets are chirping. I hate being alone in a quiet space. Maybe that's one reason I like Skylar so much. With her, I can somehow break the rope, and I am free from the captivity. I take a run for the door. It opens with no problem. I run until my feet ache and my stomach growls. I need to eat something. I sit down on what used to be a park bench and hold my stomach hoping it doesn't fall apart.

I observe my surroundings and notice the long grass and torn slides. This place has probably not been attended in a decade or so.

"I used to play here," I think out loud.

I look around closely and find the slide I used to hide under when older kids would try to take my toys. I walk up to it and find the note I wrote under it.

  "Bullies are mean!"

I cringe at the words. Suddenly realizing how dark it is, I walk back onto the sidewalk and keep an eye out for Skylar.

I walk a little bit further. I can't help but find it strange how there are no street lights on. Maybe the military did that, but that wouldn't make sense if they were trying to find someone. Of course, it doesn't help me. However, light does shine on my face, something faint and distant. When I look up, the sun has started coming up. I sigh. I thought I'd never be so sad to see a sunrise, but Skylar's not with me to enjoy it.

Suddenly, I hear voices. Two men walk out of the building next to me, and I realize how completely exposed I am. I scramble for a place to hide, but I can't before I get spotted. I attempt to make a run for it.

"Elijah!" one of them shouts. I freeze. How does he know my name? Part of me wants to trust them now, but the other part of me strongly believes my information has been searched up on the Internet and exposed to the world. I hear the two walk up behind me.

"Hello, Elijah," the same man greets. I turn around and suddenly realize who's talking to me.

   "Mr. President," I greet back.
