PROLOGUE

"You won't tell anyone about this?" She almost panted, her hair clung to the sweaty forehead. Dark circles underneath her eyes showing her lack of sleep. Her small frame sunk into the brown leather chair in the dim lit room. The wall was covered in high bookshelves with books about the human mind.

"I'm sworn to secrecy, Miss Rhys." His dark voice rung in her ears, usually it calmed her.

"We've been over this many times."

"They have eyes and ears everywhere." Tears threatened to spill down her pale cheeks.

"Who are you speaking of, Miss." Dr. Fitzgerald asked, looking over the small glasses with the black framing.

"Who are They."

"Can I trust you?" She fumbled with her bony fingers.

"Your secret is safe with me, Eliza." He tried to calm her.

"Are you still experiencing nightmares?"

"They will never leave me alone. They are always with me."

"Especially at night."

"Are you taking the pills I prescript for you."

"Their eyes..."

"Whenever I close my eyes I see theirs."

"Eliza." He was on the brim of loosing her.

"One simple mistake has ruined my life."

"Eliza!" He fought.

"They will kill me, I know so."

"They kill everyone, I've seen it!"

"Eliza listen to me. You are safe here."

"Shut up! You don't know anything, you think I'm just hallucinating. That everything I've told you is stories from my head. That I'm insane and can't tell the difference between the real and unreal."

"Miss Rhy—" She was lost.

"Everything is real and not a single pill with stop it." Her words were spoken with so much power that it caused goosebumps to raise on his skin. She looked him dead in the eye yet tears wet her cheeks.
