Cole.
Sean Fontaine was pissed at me. It truly could've been for any number of reasons. Pick one.
1. I didn't call him like I said I would last night. (In my defence he doesn't like it when I call after 10 pm.)
2. I punched his brother in the face twenty minutes ago. (Swear to God he had it coming though.)
3. I told him I had hooked up with someone over the summer. (Sean and I weren't dating then though, and we're still not dating now. Promise.)
Seriously, it was anyone's guess.
I could feel him glaring at me. I stood in the street outside of Ava Henriquez house, because she had a no drugs over the property line rule.
A group of nervous private school kids, all daring each other to be the one to do the talking, wasted my time.
I shifted my weight between my feet and folds my arms. It was hot. I was still sweating even though the sun went down three hours ago, kind of hot.
The guys finally decided who would do the talking, and a gangly kid with dark red hair stepped forward and did his best to hold my eye.
These private school kids are all the same, I thought, and charged some asshole seventy-five bucks for two pills. He acquiesced and handed me the money without a second hesitation.
I know him, I'm pretty sure. I think it was my tackle which ended his season last year.
He shoved the two pills into his pockets, and glances around the party. Two boys were about to come to blows over a chick they've both been fucking. A girl cried cause her drug dealer sold her laundry powder and not Coke. The usual Yorkie shit.
He drew a breath to speak, and I cocked an eyebrow, daring him to waste my time even further. He closed his mouth and scurried off with his friends.
Good choice.
I counted the money again, feeling it between my fingertips, and crossed over to the vacant block opposite Ava's where I had left Alex.
"All I'm saying is that, if I were to see a jelly fish in space —" Alex Jaxon said, like I had never left the conversation twenty minutes ago.
I kicked him gently in the ribs, and sat beside him on the grass. "You're a mess when you're high."
Alex pouted. "This is a valid conversation topic."
"What is?" Tex asked, standing on the other side of the road, smoke in his mouth. The red end glowed in the dark.
He and the group he was with — Nate, Keira and the the twins, Amory and Finch — waited for a car to pass, before sprinting across the road, carrying something that looked like a Gatorade bong.
My attention was caught by Sean standing with his brother by the rose bushes near the front door. Drew started toward me, but his collar was caught by Sean.
Alex crawled up to his knees. He swayed, gently. "Jellyfish in space right —"
Keira rolled her dark eyes and pushed him down by the shoulder. "Fuck off Alex."
"You guys suck."
