Chapter three

A brown man was standing on the door. Sarah called out, “Sir, Madam is waiting for you in her study.”

“Oh, sure I’ll meet her there. Thank you, Sarah.”

“You’re welcome Mr. Luke.”

Luke Evans was Ava’s colleague. They both worked for Soulcase Publications. More than that he was Ava’s close friend. When Ava moved to University of Berkeley, the only friend she got was Luke. They both have worked together after that. When Ava completed the university and went to look out for a job Luke helped her find it. He admired her and her talent. He knew that she can bring a change through her words. But sometimes it appeared that he has developed a soft corner in his heart for her.

“Good Morning buddy.”, Luke said as he entered Ava’s study.

“Good Morning Luke. What’s up?”

“Well I’m here to give you good news. Your new book is already making you popular. 2.5 million copies have been sold already.”

“Wow, that’s a great news. I can’t believe it’s happening. My dream is coming true.”

“Well more than that you are getting promotion and you have to shift to California, your home town.”

“That’s really great news. I don’t know what to say. I’m extremely happy. Thank you for all this Luke. If it weren’t you I would not be here.”

“Shut up. It’s all yours. You have the power to bring a change. It’s not me.”

“But without you I wouldn’t be able to do anything.”

“Leave this now. I have to end this conversation right now. I’m in a hurry right now. Tonight, the publication house has thrown a party in your honour. Be on time. Need to rush now bye. Ciao”

“Ciao.”

After Luke left Ava called Paige. They both were miles apart but their bond was even stronger. In all these years they both shared every minute detail of their lives. Ava was now a writer while Paige was practising law. Paige was still residing in California while Ava lived in New York.

“Hey Paige, What’s up?”

“Hey, nothing much, you tell. By the way I really wanted to say your new book is really good. Every word, every line is really powerful.”

“Thank you Paige. Actually I wanted to tell you something. I’ve been promoted and I’m being transferred back to California.”

“Wow, that’s really great news. But why is that you don’t seem happy on this? Don’t you want to come back?”

“It’s not that. I also want to come. But all those memories come flashing in my head. I don’t want to be hurt again.”

“I understand. But you would be with me, with your family. Your dad always miss you. He wanted you to be with him and now you have the chance. Don’t feel sad for anything. What happened was meant to be happen. I know it’s hard but try to forget it. Moreover we can still hang out together like before.”

“I think you’re right. I can’t always punish myself like that.”

“That’s the spirit my girl. Now come fast. Tell me your arrival date and I’ll be there to pick you up.”

“Yup. I’ll be coming next Tuesday.”

“Well that’s nice. Now I’ve to go for a meeting. Talk to you later. See you soon.”

“I’m sure you will. Bye. Kisses”

“Bye. Kisses”

Ava hanged up the phone and went into a deep thought. She knew that she wanted to go back but all those memories came flashing.

Ava was in her final year when one fine day Paige called.

“Hey Paige, what’s up?”

“Ava I know it would be hard for you, but….. Beau had an engagement and he is now engaged to Ashley.”
