Staring out of the window, princess (Y/n) watched as the petals fell apart from their flowers and caught hold of the breeze. One danced its way through the window and took its final bow in her hand. As she gently caressed the petal, one could see the longing in her eyes. "We're so much alike; Only to be admired for our petals and nothing else. Being carried in directions we don't control." Her attention to her lessons was far forgotten until the scolding of her tutor brought her mind back to her tasks. "*sigh*"
"Please, pay attention, (Y/n). Your father was very clear that he wanted you to excel above your siblings in your studies." Your tutor advised, he was trying his best to be patient but you seemed more distracted than usual. "How about this, since you're so entranced with the gardens today, go work on your painting. Your father said you need to improve."
You perked your head up, hearing that you'd be going outdoors for a lesson. "Really? That would be nice, thank you." your voice's usual gentle calmness released some of the excitement you had as you were quick to collect your composure after speaking.
Your tutor gave a good-natured chuckle and spoke once again. "Go find a spot outside and I'll have your things brought out and set up for you."
You bowed politely, "thank you, I'll leave now." and headed through the door. Making your way through the corridors, your pace quickened once you saw no one was there to see you and let an ecstatic smile take over as you saw your favorite person alone in the gardens. You lightened your footsteps as you approached. "China, how are you this morning?" He was leaning against a tree with a pipe as he looked out at the beautiful landscaping.
Turning to face the princess, he was slightly surprised to see her outside during this time of day. "I'm well, thank you." He spoke, expelling small traces of smoke from his mouth. He set his pipe down, being polite and not smoking in front of a lady. "And what are you doing out here this time of day?" He was the only one, aside from your mother and full-siblings, to speak to you normally. Though still being respectful.
You slightly pouted jokingly. "Father says I need to work on my painting." You spoke freely, you didn't need to portray yourself as such a delicate flower to him. His presence was a small sanctuary for you, you actually felt relaxed and at ease around him. Smiling softly at each other, you got an idea. "How about you be my model~?" You teased with a wink, though you were serious.
His eyes widened and his cheeks flushed. "O-okay." He mumbled and turned his head slightly away from embarrassment.
You smiled at this and just in time, some servants came with the things you needed. Going back to your formal behavior, you spoke to them. "Thank you, over here should be fine." You said as you pointed to a spot near you. They did what you said as quickly and quietly as possible before leaving with a bow.
"Now..." You started as you turned back to China. "...please, sit back down." You instructed with a gesture to his previous seat. He did as you said while you sat at your own place and started preparing the ink. Looking up from your preparations you saw China looking at you, you smiled quietly as you grabbed your paper and brush. "Okay, where to start~?" You thought out loud while studying his features.
"I think I'll start with your face-hold on." You suddenly paused.
"What is it?" He asked with curious eyes. His eyes suddenly got wider, if possible, seeing you close in on his face. He flushed brightly as your fingers delicately arranged the hair around his face.
"Just let me fix your hair." There was her silky voice again. It seemed prettier than usual and he couldn't refocus on what was going on. Your hands in his hair felt so nice. He shouldn't be liking this so much, Countries aren't supposed to get involved with humans. Not only that but she was a princess, the Emperor's favorite daughter. The Emperor would be sure to be looking for a good husband for her and he definitely wasn't on the list.
"There. All better." She chimed, retaking her sitting position. She grabbed her brush once again and spoke softly with some distraction as her focus was now on her craft. "Don't move." As you painted, you and China made light small talk that lit his insides with warmth. He thought he was hiding it from you until you laughed out a remark "Don't smile! It changes your eyes."
After a moment of silence, (Y/n) remembered something she wanted to ask of the man. "My father is holding a party for my brother tonight." She chirped "it's going to be a lot of fun, would you like to go with me?" She knew how to be charming while speaking with others but she couldn't delude the heat in her face while asking.
China knew he couldn't get involved with you and your destinies were on a path that neither could control but he could at least go with you to a party. "I'd love to."
