It was getting late. (F/c) nails tapped against the tabletop, eyes glancing over the already memorized diner menu.

"Are you read-"

"Just a few more minutes. Please." (Y/n) cut the poor waitress off before offering an apologetic smile for being rude. The woman just shook her head and retreated back to the counter. (Y/n) glanced at her watch. Tony should have been here half an hour ago, she sighed to herself. "Five more minutes, you idiot. That's all you get." The two teenagers were supposed to hang out that night, (Y/n)'s dad being out of town thus leaving her alone with their apartment for the weekend. She hummed along to that new Genesis song playing through the diner speakers. Two minutes left, Tony ran in, sliding into the booth breathing heavily. (Y/n) raises an eyebrow at him, glancing at her watch again.

"I know, I know, I'm super late." The waitress noticed his arrival and went to finally take their order.

"Are we all here now?" She smiled kindly at the two.

"Yes ma'am. I'll have a burger with a coke, and my friend here will have the same thing she always gets, a (fav diner food) and a (fav drink)." The woman jotted it all down on her little pad. "Oh, and a large serving of fries as well. Thank you." Tony handed her the menu that he never even looked at.

"I'll get that right out for you." She smiled and left them alone. (Y/n) had yet to utter a word to her late friend.

"Aw, come on, (Y/n)! I ran all the way here. I just overslept, I was up all night studying." He defended himself. The teen just rolled her eyes. The waitress brought their drinks and left once more.

"I didn't think you were majoring in human anatomy." (Y/n) said, taking a sip of her drink.

"I'm sixteen!" He cried. "Anyways, that really wasn't why I was up late. I was working on my robot for the M.I.T. Robot Design contest."

"Yeah?" The girl crossed her arms. He just stared at her with his puppy dog eyes and goofy grin. Laughter spilled from her tight lips. "Fine, fine. I believe you. How's it going?" (Y/n) uncrossed her arms.

"Well, dad wasn't impressed but I think it's going to win."

"Tony, I bet your dad was ecstatic when you showed him. Maybe he just doesn't know how to phrase it, but I know he is proud of everything you do." (Y/n) scolded him. She hated when he talked about Howard that way. She just knew in her heart that he loved Tony more than anything, granted she couldn't fault Tony for some of the resentment what with the way Howard treats him sometimes. The waitress came by with their food.

"Anything else I can get you two love birds?" She cooed. Tony burst into laughter as (Y/n)'s face bloomed red.

"No, no, no, we are not together like...that!" (Y/n) stammered, looking away from the waitress and her friend.

"Oh, my apologies, I just assumed what with a handsome boy like him and a beautiful gal like yourself." The waitress winked at Tony who just laughed harder. "I'll leave you two be then, not on a date." With one last wink, she waltzed off.

"(Y/n) come on! Shall we eat the fries like Lady and the Tramp?" Tony chuckled, sticking a fry between his lips before immediately spitting it out. "Ow! Hot! Hot!"

"That's what you get, asshole." It was (Y/n)'s turn to laugh. She dug into her food with a smug smirk on her face.

"Har, har, har. Laugh it up all you want, girlfriend." Tony shot back. (Y/n) choked on her drink, nearly spitting it all over him.

"Stop it, we aren't dating. Like I'd ever date you." She blushed, wiping her face with a napkin. "We'd never work anyways."

"Yeah, it'd be too weird."
