Chapter 8. Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!

    I was on my way to Sawyer’s apartment when my phone pinged with a text. Usually I don’t check my phone while I’m driving in the city, but I thought it could be Sawyer. I slid the phone out of my front pocket and watched as Beau’s number flashed across the screen. Ah hell what does that prick want.

    Beau: I know what you did.

    What the hell is he talking about. I decided not to respond and placed my phone in my center council. I haven’t spoken to him since our confrontation about him stealing Sawyer away. What could he mean, what I did? Another ping breaks my away from my thoughts. I check my phone again.

    Beau: That’s why you’re up there instead of Georgia.

    Shit, I wonder how he found out I was up here. Oh fuck. Gaylon must have told him. Makes sense, they are cousins. I’m still at a loss about what I supposedly did though. I looked at my phone again.

    Beau: We were happy and you had to go and fuck it up. She’s so broken.

    I was so confused, I would never hurt Sawyer. I had to respond, so I sent a text back.

    Me: What the hell are you going on about dude?

    Beau: You put the underwear in my truck you fuck! How could you do that to her?!

    Fuck, he thinks it was me! I wonder if that’s what Caroline told him. I know she’s been trying without any luck to get Beau to want her. I can understand his reluctance. She had to of done this. When I rejected her offer she must have seen the opportunity. Or maybe Beau really did cheat and he’s trying to cover it up. Although, the panties Sawyer described do sound like something Caroline would wear. Ugh, I don’t know. All I know is it wasn’t me and Sawyer was fair game.

    Me: I didn’t do it.

    Beau: Right, you just happen to switch colleges last minute because you felt like it? I’m not buying it Zeek.

    He wasn’t wrong about that. I switched schools to see her, to pursue her. I lost my chance when he swooped in, but I’m not going to let him ruin my chances this time.

    Me: I switched because MSU has a better football program, not to mention their agricultural program is one of the best.

    I wasn’t lying, Michigan State has been one of my top choices for a while. Finding out that’s where Sawyer was only helped me make my decision. I know it’s stupid to base your education on where a girl is, but there’s something about Sawyer that I can’t help myself. She makes me feel things I’ve never felt before. One smile and my heart is ready to explode. I need to see this through with her, I have to try and make her mine.

    I put Beau on mute and pushed our conversation from my mind. Today I was taking Sawyer out on our first date and he wasn’t going to ruin that. I was taking Sawyer to the Potter Park Zoo. It is Michigan’s oldest public zoo and has 102 acres of land. I knew Sawyer wanted to be a vet, so this would be perfect for our date.

I pulled into the parking lot and walked into her apartment building. I softly knocked on her door and waited patiently for her to answer. My heart was thumping so loud I could hear it in my ears. When she opened the door my mouth fell open. She was dressed in a pair of jean cut off shorts, the ones that had bottom of the pockets sticking out, and a tight light blue razor back tank top. I could see every curve of her body, which ignited my body. I forced myself to say something before I looked like an even bigger moron.

“You are so beautiful Thompson.”

Sawyer blushed. “You don’t look too bad yourself sir.” She giggled. Christ that laugh, I love it.
