I walked through the long hallway that lead out to the exit of the black egg. Each step I took made my path glow white with symbols and pillars in the dark hallway. After the incident with the little fire breathing menace I decided to tie its little death trap it has called a mouth shut with more of my silk, since i feared it would regain its strength to fire out more shots. It wouldn't try for a while though, it had fallen asleep after a bit as I walked. I'd have to do many climbing and jumping to get my way around here and I'm not going to do it all with my brothers remains and a demon baby.. I don't wanna shatter his mask even more and I don't wanna kill the damn thing, even as much as I wanted to. I crafted my own little larvae sling to hold the little creature and held my brothers mask together and tied it up with my sticky silk to make a makeshift back pack to at least carry them both around hands free. The trip around was bound to be slow since I cannot swing around fast like I could with my needle and silk.. I sighed at the thought, but I remembered I'd be able to enjoy the sights of the forgotten crossroads back to its former glory before the infection bursted out of control..
As I just left the entrance of the temple of the black egg I turned back and looked back at it for a moment. It glowed a bright white again, the windows and entrance of the temple seemed to burst with its heavenly light. Looks so much more welcoming despite all the suffering that happened within it..
As I turned back to walk again a thought came to me.
'What will happen to hollownest now..? will we be able to bring it back to it's former glory? Are there even any other survivors left?..'
All these questions flooded my mind as I walked. I shook these thoughts off, now was not the time to worry myself with this, I'd much rather rest before I can fill my head again with these thoughts..
I can feel myself tire with the weights of the knights mask and the creature, both weren't too heavy on their own but it was a weight I'm not used to having on me while traveling. I sped up my walking to get to my destination faster, dirtmouth.
I plopped down one ledge as I neared the well, I turned my head to see a figure lying on the floor. I walked closer to take a look, It's one of those husks that walked infected, was it still alive?. was it dead?. I kneeled down a bit, to get a quick look. It didn't seem wounded, but it didn't move at all.. maybe unconscious?. I decided to check later, I wasn't about to waste my time if this one was long gone.
I climbed up the other ledge, and there it was. The well that lead to dirtmouth. I grabbed the chain just as I was about to climb it back up when-
"Greetings there!"
That voice, it was familiar.. I turned my head to face the source of the voice. It was that round bug from before.. the one I had met in the howling cliffs. I froze a bit, not expecting a reunion with this one, especially now.
"Hello.."
i turned back, not wanting to converse with him right now. I was just about to continue to climb up before he spoke up again.
"Weren't you the one that gave me that very polite welcome when I first arrived?."
Sarcasm but not a passive aggressive one, if anything very welcoming. I let out a sigh, even if I climbed I'd feel like he'd just follow me. I decided to just give into the small talk. Just for a short while.
"Yes, I'm the one who almost skewered you. If it weren't for your mask.."
I noticed the lack of it, it must have disappeared with the dreamer that owned it..
"I see you're not wearing her mask..How are..uh..you holding up?."
"Oh, heh.." he cleared his throat, his face drained of any color. He stayed silent for a bit. I already knew just by looking at him.
I spoke again to break the silence.
"Seems we both already found something in common.."
"Yeah.." he laughs softly to hide his pain.
"Anyway.. my name is quirrel!, I didn't get to properly introduce myself before you uh.. you know" he rubs his neck as he talked before extending his hand towards me.
"I hope for us to become close allies and maybe even friends in this new future!" He says in a more cheerier tone.
I let go of the chain and got closer to take his hand and shook it.
"Hornet..and As do i. But I will not hesitate to go a second round if you try anything.."
Though it was just a threat I meant it, I wasn't about to trust him all the way.
He chuckles
"don't worry, if I seem even in the slightest as suspicious you have my permission to!" An obvious joke. He's not an idiot to just let himself die that easily. He knows how to weld that nail of his, if I hadn't cut off our fight back there I'm sure he would have put up a hell of a fight.
I decided to just let him tag along my short quest up to dirtmouth. Being allies sounds like a good idea..
