The day Liam auditioned for X Factor, Niall felt off. He woke up alone that morning, which was one reason. (He and Liam had been spending every night together up until that day.) His stomach felt odd. And then-

Niall was forced to fall out of his bed and sprint towards the bathroom. He barely made it before nearly everything he had eaten the previous night had decided to show itself again. "Mum!" Niall shouted. He hated calling his mother while he was sick, but this wasn't some ordinary stomach bug. Niall could feel it.

"Niall? Oh, Niall!" Maura rushed into the bathroom to see what was wrong with Niall. "Are you alright? You never call me when your sick."

"I don't think this is some stomach bug, Mum. Can you take me to the clinic?" Niall whimpered before turning and throwing up a bit more.

"Niall, X Factor is today. Do you want to wait? We can get a bucket and go tomorrow. Do you want to watch Liam's audition?" Maura said nervously. She knew Niall was still a bit upset about Liam not allowing him to come to his audition with him.

"Just in case I don't get through," Liam had murmured the night before as he placed another kiss on Niall's lips. "I don't want you to see me not get through."

"I wanna go to the clinc, Mum. But if you want to watch Liam's audition, I can drive myself." Niall pulled himself off of the bathroom floor and began fumbling around for his toothbrush.

"If you insist," Maura complied. "You can drive yourself. But call me if you need anything, yeah?"

"Has Karen called this morning? I'd like to at least know if Liam will be going on early." Niall had sucessfully finished getting ready without throwing up, although he did feel off the entire time.

"I think Liam will be going on toward the end. Be careful, Niall," Maura warned. "I'll call you if you aren't back by Liam, alright?"

"It's fine, Mum. I'll be back soon. The clinic shouldn't be too busy." Niall gave his mum a kiss on the cheek before leaving quickly.

"So what seems to be the problem, Niall?" Doctor Black asked him. Niall had had this doctor before; she was relatively nice, so Niall didn't have a problem with spilling about how he had been feeling the past few days.

"I just feel off. My stomach feels weird. I threw up this morning. It doesn't feel like I've got a normal stomach bug," Niall confessed.

"Well, I promise I'll figure out why you've been feeling so weird. Can you sit up a bit for me? I need to listen to your heart." Niall did as he was told, and Doctor Black lifted his shirt up to listen to his heart. "Well, that's a bit unusual..." She murmured to herself. "Niall, I'm going to get some things. I'll be back soon."

Why was his heart a bit unusual? Was there something wrong with it? "She would have told me if she thought there was something majorly wrong with it," Niall spoke out loud to himself. He didn't have much time to ponder how stupid he sounded, though. Doctor Black walked back in pushing a cart full of things.

"Alright, Niall. I'm going to draw a bit of blood and do a quick blood test. Then I'll do a small ultrasound just to check on everything. Is that alright?" Doctor Black asked as she readied her needle.

"As long as you can find out what is wrong with me," Niall said quietly. Doctor Black laughed a little and asked Niall to hold up his arm and clench his fist.

"I'm not even going to bother to tell you that this will hurt," she muttered. Niall giggled a little. Her joke helped him get past the little bit of pain. "Now you can lay back for me. This will be cold."

Doctor Black's hands touching Niall's stomach tickled, so that took an edge off of the coolness of the gel. Then Doctor Black grabbed the little wand off of the ultrasound machine.

"Just what I thought..." Doctor Black whispered again. "Niall, did you realize that you can get pregnant?"

"What?" Niall asked in a shocked tone. "Doc, males don't get pregnant. Can you tell me what's really wrong now?"

"Niall, you are in fact pregnant. That's a two week old baby. Very tiny, but males tend to get symptoms quite a bit earlier than women."

"There must be some mistake!" Niall yelled frantically. "I can't be having a baby."

"I'm afraid you are, Niall," Doctor Black said sadly. "Would you like me to ge rid of it? We can do an abortion right here. No one needs to know a thing."

"I-I can't," Niall whispered. "I can't do that to a baby. Everyone deserves a chance to live."

"That's a good way to put it, Niall," Doctor Black gave him a smile. "I'm going to go grab you some prenatal vitamins and send you on your way."

"Thank you, Doctor Black. When can I come back in for a check up?"

"Well, considering you're a male, we probably need to keep a close eye on you. I'll be your doctor through your pregnancy. Come back in a month's time, yeah? I'll get the nurse up front to make you an appointment." Doctor Black grabbed the prenatal vitamins from her cart and handed them to Niall. "I'll see you next month, Niall."

Niall thanked her again and headed back out into the waiting room of the clinic where the nurse gave him his next appointment. She gave him a smile as she handed him the slip of paper.

Niall decided against telling his mum right then. He decided to wait until after his next appointment, when everything was a bit clearer and he had picture evidence as well. And then the big question loomed over Niall. Would he tell Liam?

He decided against that, too. Liam deserved to go out and live his dream. If he knew, Liam would absolutely give up his dream to help Niall take care of his baby. He couldn't ask Liam to do that.

(Niall had tears running down his face as he drove home.)
