Mrs

Mrs. McCall is my new hero and I want to be her when I grow up.

I honestly don't get how she's handling a scheme like this so well, especially with her son in the morgue, but she's rocking it.

I, on the other hand, am finally adjusting to the jitters, which is sort of just making way for the feeling that I'm not needed here. I'm unimportant.

Stiles and Argent already messaged the Benefactor about Scott and the former has joined Kira, Liam, and I in watching the laptops we set up in an empty room. Four of us looking at two laptops? Kind of unnecessary. I'm actually sitting on the other bed, the screens faced away from me, and the other three are doing fine.

"Any signs?" I ask.

Kira hums and shakes her head.

"Hey, uh. Is that supposed to look like that?" Liam points at the bottom corner of the screen on my right. I get up to see if I can get a peek of what's going on.

Stiles looks panicked, "N-no, no. No it's not."

"Where is that?"

"The roof. Someone's gonna have to check it out."

"I'll go," Kira volunteers.

"Wait!" I call just as Stiles also moves to stop her with a "woah, woah."

"This might not be just a malfunction," he continues.

"That's why I'm bringing this," she unsheathes her sword. Stiles looks at the blade apprehensively and half nods, which I guess Kira takes as an 'okay.'

She turns to leave as Liam blurts, "I'm coming with you!"

"Okay, and you're coming right back! Immediately!" they bolt out of the room as Stiles looks back to the computers and sighs. "Kids."

"Kira's your age, dumbass."

He jumps back into the window sill, hand flying to his chest.

"What?" I laugh. "Did you forget I was here?"

"No, no. I just assumed you'd go with Liam."

I can tell he's just trying to make a smooth recovery, but he still does make a fair point.

"I wouldn't be any help to them," I explain, and when it becomes apparent that he doesn't understand, I add. "I didn't happen to bring a lacrosse stick with me today."

He gives one of those quick-breath-out-of-your-nose laughs and says, "well, you don't need a weapon to look at a computer screen."

I comply and take watch of the screen with one cam, probably the one on the roof, out.

We sit in an uncomfortable silence for a good point two seconds before Stiles comments, "you're actually running away?"

"Well, kinda," I reason. Mom probably knows where I'm heading. You know, since I only have one friend to go to and she knows their address by heart. "I'm staying in town, she'll probably find me pretty quickly. I just-- I can't stay in that shithole anymore."
