<P>Chapter One: Grief, love, and Realization</P>
<P>My will to fight all this grief and hurt vanished and the darkness crushed me, the tears rushed from my eyes and i tasted them as they reached my trembling mouth. </P>
<P>"Elena.." Caroline was siiting next to me holding me in the next second, even if i wanted to i didn't have the strength to fight her so i just closed my eyes returning to the darkness. </P>
<P>At some point the tears dryed and my breathing calmed. I gazed up at caroline as she stroked my hair gently.</P>
<P>"You don't have to stay, i think ill be okay Caroline you should be home with Matt." I murmured, matt had become great friends with both Bonnie and Stefan so he needed his girl to help him get through this and his mom and Vickie is no where to be found. </P>
<P>"Always so selfless Elena, i want to stay with you, your my best friend." I smiled and soon fell asleep.</P>
<P>I woke up to the sound of my beeping annoying alarm and pushed it off the table. </P>
<P>"Get up, lazy girl we've got a busy schedule today." My eyes fluttered and Damon's face was inches from mine. I pushed him away with all my strength. I knew he didn't even feel it but he dissapeared and appeared by my bedroom door. </P>
<P>I got up and walked up to him, so that i was inches from his predatory mouth. </P>
<P>"I hate you, i never want to see your smug face ever again. You get it Damon?" His eyes smoldered and i saw the hurt hit them for a split second. Then, he grabbed my hand and looked at me seriously. </P>
<P>"You don't hate me, you want to but you could never hate me Elena." He is so infuriating, i thought to myself.</P>
<P>"And why is that Damon? Because your such a nice guy....thats definitely not it!"</P>
<P>He leaned in, stroking my cheek. I pulled away but it was useless because he pulled my face to his again. </P>
<P>"Because your in love with me, you always will be- even if you think you hate me you can't Elena." I gazed into his eyes for a moment that felt like an eternity. And anger returned to my eyes. </P>
<P>"Even if thats true i'll never love you no matter how much you try because i will always be stefans, forever." And then Damon vanished out my door with a shattered gaze reaching his eyes. </P></B></P>
