THERE WAS A LOUD knocking on the front door, startling Madison, who was sat on the stairs. Madison remained in her spot, clutching onto a candle holder in fright. The knock came several more times and then was followed by a voice, "Madi?!"

When she recognised it to be her moms, she moved to the door and took off the three locks. Madison opened the door, revealing Katherine, who was puzzled.

Katherine entered the house, staring at the candle holder in her daughters hand, "Why are you holding that, and why did you bolt the door shut?"

"I..." Madison placed the item in her hand down onto a surface.

"Oh, sweetie." She said and pulled Madison into her arms, "You've been on your own and now you're frightened, aren't you?"

"I'm okay, mom." Madison replied.

Katherine moved back, shaking her head, "You don't have to pretend to be strong, Madi, I understand. I think it's time we spoke about everything."

"Everything?" Madison questioned.

She nodded and began to walk in the direction of the kitchen, "Yes. Come on, let me make you a hot chocolate like I used to."

Madison took in a breath, wondering if she'd have to tell her why she was really holding a candle holder and chaining the front door shut. She cleared her throat and composed herself before following her mom into the kitchen.

Madison stopped by the kitchen island, watching her mom grab some mugs, "So, where do we start?"

The young brunette could feel her chest becoming heavy at the thought of anything they had to talk about, "How about we finally talk about Miles? How did you meet?"

"He..." Katherine began but then stopped herself.

Madison furrowed her brows, growing concerned, "Mom?"

"He was my college professor." Katherine told her.

Madison's heart jumped into her throat and she shook her head in disbelief, "Wait, what? So... you cheated on dad with your professor?"

"I know it sounds bad -- I know it is bad, but I was young and stupid," Katherine explained, moving towards her daughter, "but I got you, baby, and I wouldn't change that for the world."

Madison's eyes were glossed in tears. Her jaw kept clenching, "But you almost didn't."

Katherine furrowed her brows, "What do you mean?"

"You almost didn't have me. I know Ezra's mom tried to blackmail you into an abortion." She told her, the tears beginning to fall, "I'm so sorry, mom."

"Hey, hey." Her mom tried to soothe her, pulling her into her arms and holding her tight, "It's not your fault, none of this is your fault, okay? Everything happened because of me, but that's the past now, and we only need each other. I love you so much, Madison."
