MADISON SPENT the first half of her lunch break reading through Alison's biology notepad. She'd read a conversation about The Beach Hottie, which the girls had been talking about. She was now reading one about Toby.

It seemed that Alison had paid a visit to him whilst he had been in juvie, and she'd claimed he was the one sending her threats. Madison obviously knew he hadn't.

There didn't seem much to go on and she was distracted with thoughts about Ezra being gone and also that she'd heard Paige talking to Caleb about the brain in Mona's locker. Why would he be the one that put it there? It made no sense.

The brunette sighed as she picked up the notepad and flicked through the pages at a fast pace in hopes something interesting might catch her eye. It did. Madison dropped all of the pages onto the left side. On the back page was a photograph of Alison and Cece.

Madison picked the picture up to look at it closer. In the background, behind the two, there seemed to be a cabin with a display rescue buoy that had Cape May written on it. The left side of the photo had been ripped off, where it looked as though Alison had her arm around someone else.

"Hey." A voice startled the brunette.

Madison turned the picture over and placed it back into the notepad, closing the entire thing. She glanced up to meet Max's gaze, "Hey."

"Studying during lunch?" He asked, taking a seat beside her, "That's not like you."

She gave him a small polite smile, "Just wasting time."

"Until what?" Max asked.

"Something better comes along." Madison turned to him, continuing to smile, "And... it did."

Max narrowed his eyes at the brunette with a sceptical grin, "What's got you in such a good mood?"

Her face relaxed and she exhaled with a small shrug, "I wouldn't say good mood, just grateful that Ezra was so understanding about what I'd been keeping from him. And also the fact that most of this mood is just me trying to convince my brain to not go into a complete breakdown in the middle of school."

Max became concerned. His eyebrows pulled together in the centre of his forehead and his hand subconciously took hold of her hand that was resting on the table, "Hey, you're gonna be okay. You can talk to me you know."

Madison looked down to his hand touching her and all she could feel was guilt. Max noticed what he had done and moved his hand from her, "Sorry."

She shook her head and moved her hand too, "It's okay, um, there's nothing I can really talk to you about. It's a girl code thing."
