Enough of that! Moray told himself. Let's move on and see what the other scrolls have to offer. He closed the drawer and opened the other casing.
MY ENCOUNTER WITH A SCAVENGER, the title read.
Many dragons know what scavengers are, but half have never seen one in person. I am one of those dragons. I am Sunclaw of the SkyWings, and here is my experience.
I was a musician at one of Queen Scarlet's many events. Before, I had just performed in the streets for civilians. But you're not here for my life story. Anyhow, shortly after setting up the caterers let loose animals onto the ballroom floor. Cows, pigs, and chickens scattered. Among these delicious animals were some weird scrawny, furless two-legged thing. They didn't look that appetizing.
There was only two of them running loose. I watched them stick together and scan the room, trying to find ways to escape instead of aimlessly running in circles like the cattle. They hid under tables and in corners and snuck behind dragon's backs almost intelligently. One even looked at me with a quizzical expression as I played my instrument.
But in the end, once the room had been filled with dragons, there was no hiding. They were snacks before the end of the night and it kind of broke my heart that I couldn't see it's quizzical expression again.
And that's the end of the scroll. That's it? Interesting, but practically no information at all. Moray huffed out loud, putting the scroll aside and moving on. Finally, the scroll that had answers. He unrolled it, reading the title again.
THE WAR IS OVER, PROPHECY FULFILLED!
NEW QUEENS AND NIGHTWING SECRETS REVEALED?He wanted to read the NightWing Secrets Revealed first, but he probably needed the main War Over part to understand. So he read on.
The Dragonets of Destiny have finally done it! As the prophecy predicted, they have ended the war and two of the SandWing princess have perished. But who was chosen as the new queen? Blaze is the one remaining sister, but it is not her.
On the fateful night brighter than the Brightest Night (thanks to the returning comet) the Eye of Onyx was discovered in Queen Oasis's grave. This artifact is worn by the rightful queen of the SandWing tribe and dispatches of those who are not worthy. The dragonets used this animus-touched artifact to choose the new queen.
Oh! I remember that night! That was like a month or two ago. I missed out on all of this? At least I didn't have to be amidst the chaos. I would've probably died.
Blister was deemed unworthy and perished by its electric grasp. Burn perished by her own undoing. Upon trying to eliminate her other sisters with a dragon viper, she herself was bitten. Blaze stepped aside for the dragonets.
This left Thorn. The leader of the Outclaws and the SandWing destiny dragonet's mother as a logical option to the dragonets. They handed her the Eye of Onyx and it accepted her as the new queen of the SandWings.
All hail Queen Thorn! An animus touched object choose the queen? I wish I had more scrolls on animus things. I only have one on SandWing history that mentioned the Eye of Onyx once. He told to himself. He wished he could go see these enchanted things for himself. He wondered if they looked different than normal items somehow.
Now time to read what I've been waiting for. He rolled the scroll past the section on new Queens.
THE NIGHTWING'S HIDEOUT AND LIES
There was a rustle in the treeline. Moray glanced up and saw nothing there. It was probably a bird. They're always flapping around. It's the jungle. He continued reading.
On the Dragonet's journey, they have discovered many things. Some of them are royalty, found some animus enchanted items. The hideout of the NightWings is among these things. They discovered a hidden animus tunnel in the rainforest, where-
The sound again. He had to stop and look up again, wary of dragons finding him. Nothing appeared. He was feeling suspenseful about reading the rest of the scroll. The NightWing's home has been a mystery for so long. He imagined what it was like so many times, with never ending scroll racks and all the information he could absorb.
-the NightWings were entering and exiting.
The tunnel was an enchanted shortcut to their volcanic island where they have been hiding. The NightWings used this tunnel to kidnap unsuspecting RainWings for experiments on their venom spray.
What would they want RainWing's venom for? He felt genuinely worried for some reason. He knew this was a thing of the past now, because the phrasing, but he was still anxious? He was more disappointed about the active volcanic island part, over the anxiety feeling.
They wanted to develop venom-resistant armor so they could flee their firey nightmare and take over the rainforest from the Rainwings through war.
Oh- that's- well that's frightening. Why would they want to take it over by force when there's plenty of room to share? The RainWings are nice, they wouldn't care. He thought for a moment before realizing he wasn't feeling his own genuine worry and fright, but it was coming from someone else.
He took his nose out of the scroll and looked around. Nothing, still? He suspected that the dragon must be spying and waiting for him to make a move. Stay in the hut where it's safe, or stay in the hut where I'll be cornered? He thought for a moment. Well, if the other dragon is worried... then they must not want to attack me. They're frightful I will attack them.
He turned towards the door.
