I still don’t feel that my apology to Peter from yesterday is enough, so when I wake up, I have our day planned out perfectly. I wake up early enough so I can call Jared.
“Hey,” I whisper quietly into the phone.
“Tally? Why are you calling me at eight at night?” He asks worriedly. “You haven’t caused any trouble, have you? You aren’t in any trouble?”
“No, I’m fine. I just woke up. I want to know how much work I have to do.”
“…Well, you could just check your emails on your laptop?”
“But I wanted to talk to you!” I whine, “Plus, there’s a kid in my room. Sealand came over to visit. That’s why I’m asking if there is any work, I want to go to an arcade today with him and Arthur.”
“Well, that’s fine, as long as you get your work done by next week.”
“Oh, really!?” I squeak. “Awesome! I’ll get it done by then, promise!”
“Okay, Tally. Have a good day.” He ends.
“Have a good night.” I reply, and we hang up. I hop into the shower, and am in the middle of scrubbing my hair, when the door opens and shuts. I’m quiet for a moment until I hear the sound of fabric dropping and liquid hitting liquid as someone uses the toilet.
“…Arthur, is that you?” I call out, slowly moving back into my rhythm of forcing shampoo into my hair. A small, quiet groan is the response.
“…It’s Peter…” He replies, and I nod.
“Alright. Hurry up, though. I was about to get out…”
“M’kay.” He flushes the toilet and shimmies out, the door slamming behind him. Nearly right afterwards, the door reopens and closes gently.
“F’ckin’ kids. Why can’t I get ‘ny rest ‘round my own g’ddamned house?” Arthur growls, and I hear a loud thump of him sitting on the toilet.
“…Arthur?” I try again, and I hear a small grunt.
“Sorry Tally, I just woke up and needed to use the restroom.” He says happily, much different from the previous tone.
“I-it’s alright.” I deny, “I was about to get out, though…”
“Oh! Here, I’m almost done.” He jumps up and flushes the toilet, pulling his pants up and walking out the door. I sigh, and finally get out, drying myself off and wrapping the towel around me. I move to the clothes I picked out, an old band tee with jeans and a jacket. I slip on the white moccasins, and move to the kitchen, picking out some cereal. Peter joins me, and we munch quietly as Arthur fixes himself some tea, the only thing he knows how to make. After, Arthur hops into the shower, and Peter and I watch some television. Instead of some political debate, we turn to a cartoon channel, getting swept up into the humor and plot of the show. When Arthur is finished, Peter gets dressed, and we all are sitting on the couch, watching a cartoon, completely ready for anything.
“So… Tally. What are we going to do today?” Arthur asks, turning to me.
“How should I know?” I lie, not mentioning my idea of going to an arcade.
“Well, you have usually made the plans of what we’ve done each day.” He points out. I nod slowly.
“I have, haven’t I? Oh, let’s let Peter pick!” I exclaim, spinning to look at him. He gives me a confused look.
