I Think I Love You

Chapter 35

Rachael arrived and patted Alex's back lightly, causing her to wake up.
"Rachael."
Alex stood up and hugged her tightly, tears flowing down her face. She sobbed quietly on her shoulder so she didn't wake Emily, who was still sleeping subtly on the hospital bed.
"It's ok Alex. It'll be ok. She's ok now."
Alex kept crying and fell to her knees.
"I wish I came home earlier or never gone to work and he wouldn't have done anything to her. Rachael this hurts, It hurts to see her this way, I don't wanna see her hurt."
"At least you got there Alex. If you didn't get there she could've been dead."
Emily opened her eyes and saw Alex crying in Rachael's arms.
"Alex?"
Alex looked up at Emily and wiped her tears.
"Yes baby?"
She made her way towards Emily's bed, but stayed in the dark so Emily couldn't see the redness in her eyes and her cheeks.
"Alex come here."
She whispered into the darkly lit room, where she could still see Alex through the corner.
"Ok..."
She got closer and Emily saw her red cheeks.
"What happened?"
"Nothing Emily, please don't worry about me. How are you doing?"
"No Alex, tell me what's wrong."
"Emily.. I don't wanna see you hurt."
Alex fell to her knees by her bed and she put her head on the bed, sobbing once more.
"It's hard and sad... I wanna protect you and I couldn't even do that Emily."
"Baby, look at me."
Alex looked up at Emily, there was a light smile on her face and she lifted Alex's chin with her index finger.
"I'm alive because of you Alex. If you hadn't come at all I would've been dead. He threatened to kill me and said I didn't deserve to live, I almost died, but you came in."
Alex sighed and continued crying, again burying her head in , while Emily stroked her soft short hair.
"I'm ok baby."
Rachael came behind Alex and hugged her from there.
"Alex listen to her, she wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you. You couldn't have done more."
Alex sighed and closed her eyes, then looked up again at Emily, and smiled lightly. Emily pulled her closer for a kiss but was interrupted by the door opening. Diana walked in and gave a polite smile towards Emily once she saw her awake.
"Looks like you're up. Just came to check on you. Take good care of her Alex, I know you can."
Alex nodded and gave a light smile, then went back to looking at Emily, who was still stroking her hair softly and wiping the tears that rolled down Alex's cheek.
"I love you Alex."
Tears continued to stream down Alex's face, and she gave her a smile and kissed Emily hand.
"I love you too Emily, with every piece of my heart. I don't know what I would've done if I came home late and didn't find you there. You mean the world to me Emily, and like I said I would hate to see you get hurt."
Alex's voice fell to a quiet whisper.
"You're the love of my life Emily Reed, and I mean that with every cell in my body, and no one will ever stop me from loving you."
A smile crossed the three of their faces and Rachael sat down in a chair in the corner as Alex and Emily's faces came closer, their foreheads touching along with their noses, they were inches away from a kiss, but all they wanted to do was stay there and cherish each moment they had with each other, being focused on each other's breathing, lost in each other's lungs, staring into each other's eyes and diving into the deep sea of emotions, lost in their eyes, not wanting to find a way out of the endless maze.

Within the passing hours, Alex got in bed with Emily and held her close, still making sure not to hurt her or touch any of the cuts or bruises, and within another hour they were asleep together in the bed, with Emily in Alex's arms, with nothing more than the love in the air

Rachael took the keys from Alex and went back home, locked the door, and knocked out on the couch since the bed was a gruesome bloody mess. Rachael still lived with them until she could get on her feet and get a house on her own, and Alex was glad to have her in her house.

Everyone was happy at this point. John was gone, Rachael was in the medical field, and Alex and Emily we're finally together.
