CHAPTER EIGHT
SOMETHIN STUPID

mike was never too keen on gifts. whenever he received them, they'd either be useless or something he would throw out the next day when his mother wasn't looking. but when it came to el, he wanted to shower her in gifts and give her everything she could ever wish for.

but he didn't have any money- but that was easily fixed. nancy was at college, so if mike pinched something from her room, she'd never know. and he's even gotten his excuse ready if she ever mentions that something is missing.

he had snuck into her room without cruel intentions, tip toeing through her very pink room, with polaroids of herself and jonathan, wills older brother. there were a few of her and her friends from school, none of which mike recognised.

he continued to snoop through her things, pawing through her drawers and sneaking looks at her jewellery. he picked up long strings of tangled necklaces, quickly putting it back were it was in case he further tangled them. next, he found his long fingers pinching a pair of earrings- with pink butterfly's dangling from a golden hook. perfect.

he had noticed her newly pierced ears the night before, and was determined to give her some lovely jewellery to accessorise. he had a feeling she would like it. or at least that he tried.

shoving the earrings into his jean pockets, mike stormed down the staircase, puking up his karate bag up on the way down.

his mother dropped him off at the dojo like usual, giving him a sloppy kiss and a reminder to be home on time because they're having guests over for dinner. his distant aunt and uncle from canada- weird, to say the least.

before changing into his gi, mike quickly grabbed the earrings out of his jean pocket, an set them neatly beside his shoes. the white cloth wrapped around his body in the prefect ritual that he was so used to, and he scooped up the earrings, tossing them in the front pocket of his gi and quickly running out of the change rooms, his socks slipping on he tiles.

his heart was racing, as he desperately awaited el's arrival.

and waited. and waited.

until he realised she wasn't coming.

after a very lifeless karate lesson that day, mike was determined to see el. as soon as he arrived back at his house, mike got changed into a hoodie and jeans before jogging down the staircase for the second time that day.
