Nobody heard from Hoseok for a week.
And Jungkook was still frequenting the diner every day, in the hopes that Hoseok would come by. He had half a mind to stop by Hoseok's apartment, but something always stopped him before he could. Perhaps the fear of intruding, the fear of making things worse, the fear of confirming something he still couldn't process as real.
A week turned into two, and Jungkook was done playing around.
"Yoongi hyung!" Jungkook burst through the door to the diner, taking his usual spot on the bar stool. "Anything?"
Yoongi stayed concentrating on the drink he was making. "Same as yesterday Kook. Nothing."
Jungkook groaned. Clearly frustrated now. "Why do I feel like I'm the only one who cares? I'm the only one who cares enough to ask if anyone's heard anything and I call and leave him voicemails every night! Hobi hyung disappears and it's like all of you forget he even existed in the first place-"
"Watch it kid." Yoongi's voice was low, almost growl like.
Jungkook knew when to push Yoongi and when to back off, but this was different. "No hyung. I know you care about him, but why am I the only one worried?! Do you know something I don't? Because I feel like I'm the last to know all of this stuff!"
Yoongi sighed, putting the drink down in favor of pinching his nose. "Why are you being like this right now Jungkook. Joon-ah told me you found out about Seok-ah's shit relationship with that bastard but why right now?!"
"Because today marks two weeks since we were all at Jin hyung's which means two weeks since any of us have heard from Hobi hyung. Doesn't that sound like something we should be worried about?" Jungkook's voice was borderline desperate.
"He's not a kid Jungkook. And it's not like he's going to listen to me anyway. I know how he works. Jin hyung, Joon-ah and I, we all grew up with him in college. He's the type of guy that, once his heart is set on something, or someone, there's no stopping him. He's loyal to a fault and until things fall apart naturally, he won't listen to any of us." Yoongi spoke, frustrated at the whole situation.
"What...? I don't know what you mean hyung..." Jungkook was looking towards Yoongi with big, doe like eyes.
Yoongi sighed before grabbing a glass and filling it halfway with a large bottle of what looked like whiskey. "Jin hyung! I'm taking my break now."
Jungkook looked over to find Seokjin nodded from behind the table he was waiting on, and the next thing he knew, Yoongi was sitting beside him, nursing his drink. "I'm going to tell you why the three of us aren't doing as much as we probably should be to help him. But you should also know that Jiminie and Taehyungie don't know what's going on either. Jimin's never been fond of Sangchul, that's been known and Tae has just followed his way of thinking. But that's as far as it goes with them."
"So I'm not the last to know...why don't you tell them then?" Jungkook asked.
Yoongi just shrugged slightly, letting his finger trace the rim of his glass. "It's not our business to tell."
"But he's our friend!" Jungkook defended.
Yoongi groaned. "And this is exactly why we didn't tell the three of you. Now listen Kook. Seok-ah is too trusting and in that sense, he can be taken advantage of. He's got a heart that's too good for this damn world and that's why he's our friend, right? But he's also stubborn. Do you remember that time you had to pull an all-nighter for your exam and he stayed with you the whole time, even when he had to come in and work all day in the morning? Or the time you thought you broke your hand boxing and he rushed you to the hospital? Paid all the bills just to find out that you sprained your wrist?"
