"Hi." I heard behind me. I turned around from the counter and stared into green piercing eyes. He put a book on the counter. I rung it up and he paid. He nodded his head goodbye and left through the door. The bell ringing at his departure.
I sighed. Just another hi and no other spoken words. I often wondered if the boy was maybe deaf or something since he never said another words except "Hi". I admit that it does frustrate me because I would like to have a full conversation one day.
It gets kind of lonely being in this bookshop all day with minimum customers, but he is the only one to come in every two days. He's schedule doesn't change and that's what I like about him.
I don't know him other than him buying books here and leaving, but I would like to get to know him.
I went about my work that day. The green eyed boy still on my mind.
...
"Shit" I said as I came to a stop before my closed sign on the front door of the bookstore. I rummaged around in my bag for the key.
"Your late"
I jump in fright as I turn and look at the person beside me. "Gosh you gave me a fright right now" I say as I frown and clutch my chest. I turn my eyes back up the person beside me and my eyes widened.
It's him.
Green eyed boy. The "Hi" boy. Oh gosh I've made up so many names to call him since I don't exactly know his name.
"Uh yeah. I uhm missed my bus this morning because I slept through my alarm. Again." I said and sighed again. It's not the first time that happened and I know it won't be the last since I'm a bit of a insomniac, but this is the first time it has happend in a while.
"Uh" he said.
I just shrugged and pulled the key from my bag. I opened up and walked through pulling the door with me. I held it open for him to get inside too.
He walked in all awkwardly and stood before me. I walked to behind the counter. I expected him to go and look around the shop for books like he always does but seems today he had other plans.
He came straight up to the counter. I raised a brow and looked at him but he didn't say anything. I turned around and hung my jacket I had on on the hanger behind the door that leads to the back side of the shop and turned back to him.
He was just staring at me. I shrugged and figured the kid was just weird or something and went about my work. Not exactly ignoring him but not paying him much attention. It wasn't until 15 minutes later that he cleared his throat.
"Uh. Uhm. Hi" he said and then sighed again. I frowned at him, he didn't need to greet me since that time has passed already. "Hello" I said back, but then realised this is the first time I've greeted him back.
I smiled at him encouragingly because it seems he has more to say. Finally. I was getting sick of the same old hi all the time.
"Uh.."He said but then trailed off. My smile fell flat.
"Look. I don't know what is up with you because you've been standing here the entire time since we came in and it's obvious you want to say something so just spit it out" I said all in one sentence and huffed out a long breath. That was a mouthful but I was getting exasperated.
He looked at me with wide eyes. Then he turned like he wanted to leave and I panicked "wait!" I said. He turned back slowly with a small frown. It seemed like a dissapointed one. At me or himself I don't know.
"sorry. " I said. "it just seems I got off on the wrong side of the bed this morning. What can I help you with? " I said and gave the encouraging smile again.
He looked around and took a step closer g on the counter once again. He clears his throat., "uh well.. I was just looking for this one book... I've been looking for it for a while now.. And I never see it in the shelf. It's called Read between the lines. Do you have it?"
I stood there. The kid just said a while paragraph to me. I kept my pleased smile to myself. "ah yes. We do have that actually. I think it's in the back. I'll go get if for you If you want?" I said and gestured to the back with my pointer finger.
He smiled. Gosh. He has one pretty smile I thought as I looked at Him. "yeah. Sure. Thanks," he said excitedly. I huffed a laugh and turned around to head to the back to fetch the book. It's quite a good book as well... I've read it before and I must say he has great taste in books.
I got the book and went back out but before I opened the door I heard some muttering and I stopped beside the door to listen.
"pidstupidstupid. Ugh you could've asked him but your too chicken shit. Fuck. Uuugghh." he hit the counter softly.
I frowned. Weird kid alright. I shook my head and headed out. I put the book on the counter and rung it up. I told him his price and he paid. I gave one last smile " have a nice day further" I said and he smiled back "thanks.. Same to you" he said and turned around and left.
I sighed as the door closed. As if I could have a nice day. More like a boring day I thought as I turned around. I went to go to the back to fetch some books to unpack on the shelfs. I was at the box when the front door reopened again. I left the unpacked books on the ground and went outside to the counter again "welcome to corps bookstore" I said and when I looked back up I saw Hi Boy was back again. "uhm..." I said and he looked just as confused as I felt albeit a bit tassled.
He walked up to the counter "look." he started. "one day. I walked past here but I stopped before this window" he said and pointed at the shop window "I saw you. And I thought wow. He's so beautiful" I flushed because that was so unexpected. "you were reading a book and smiling down at the pages.. I just... I had to talk to you so I came in." I remembered that day. He was the first customer that day.
"I said "hi" and I.. I froze up because then you were looking at me with your pretty grey eyes and I just couldn't say anything else. So I just wandered in the shop and picked up any book and left again. As you know this has continued for months now.. And I can't not say anything any more. "
He blushed." so like hi im Eren and I like you. I like you a lot. I don't know you very well but I want to get to know you. So Levi. If your free this afternoon. Would you like to go on a date with me. Please. " he said and looked down.
I stood there. I was... Surprised. To think he put so much effort into interacting with me. I smiled. I felt...i don't know.. But it felt good.
I walked around the counter and stood before him. I looked up into he's face and put my hand on his cheek.
"Hi," I said and smiled. "Eren. I'd love to go on a date with you" and I reached up and pulled him into a kiss. He smiled happily in the kiss. We pulled apart and he had this wide grin on his face... I didn't need a mirror to know I had one on me as well.
Let's just say.. My day wasnt so boring afterall.
