Harry woke up earlier than her that day. The clock by his bedside showed 5:30am, a tired yawn leaving his mouth. He wanted to make today perfect for his love, make her feel like a Queen.
By 6 everything was finished and he heard her alarm quietly from their bedroom. As he heard her walking down the steps of their shared home, he took the hot drink he had prepared for her and handed her it, giving her a quick peck to the lips.
Harry took her small hand into his ring clad hand, guiding her into their living room and letting her sit on her favourite seat. The fireplace held a banner with the words 'happy Birthday' in rose gold and black; cards and wrapped gifts covered the top of their usually clean coffee table and her favourite tv show was set of the tv ready for them to sit and watch.
"H, when did you do all this?" She looked at him with admiration, placing her hot mug on a coaster and grabbing her boyfriend's hands.
"Just before you woke up. I want you to have the best birthday ever this year! 24 is a big number." A tender was kissed to his cheek before she picked up the pile of cards sat before her.
Harry noticed the way she took her time reading each card, a smile on her face the entire time. With each card she would show it to him to admire before she picked up the next one.
When it came to gifts, Harry handed her them in a specific order, making sure to leave his gift to her until last.
"Oh look at this palette! My mum knows me too well." Admiring the eye shadows in the gift from her mum, she hadn't noticed Harry tense up beside her, his nerves skyrocketing.
"It's lovely, love. Time for my gift!" He smiled widely, copying the facial expression of his favourite person.
"I told you not to get me anything silly! You being my boyfriend is enough for me."
"Don't be daft. You're my girlfriend." Harry held the bigger of the three gifts in front of her, a large box wrapped in grey wrapping paper, a white bow on top and a hand written tag from Harry.
My love, I hope you have the most amazing day today! All the love, H xx
She pulled at the paper, a white box with black writing on more visible with each tear. Her eyes instantly widened, looking at Harry in disbelief. He simply chuckled before ushering her to finish unwrapping it.
The white shoes sat back in the box as she'd thrown her hands around his neck, kissing him with everything she had.
"I can't believe you got me the Gucci trainers! They're amazing. Thank you. I love you."
"I love you too." He handed her the second gift, a slightly smaller box wrapped the same way. As she pulled at the paper she noticed the box and yet again looked at her boyfriend in disbelief.
"Harry, no. I can't accept this AND the trainers! This is way too much." He places his hands on her cheeks and allowed his thumbs to press to her lips.
"It's your birthday! I wanted to get you the trainers and you need a new phone. I don't want you spending money on a phone when I could get you one."
"Thank you." He kissed her again, her eyes closing and his heart racing more than it ever had.
Harry got nervous before shows, even after 9 years of doing it. The nerves never made him perform worse or better but they were there. He knew how to deal with those nerves. The nerves he felt on his girlfriend's birthday were something else. He'd been building himself up for this day for so long and now it was finally here he feared the nerves would stop him.
"Okay last gift. I don't want you to say anything until I'm done okay?" She simply nodded. "Okay, close your eyes for me. I'll tell you when you can open them."
Once he was sure she wasn't peeking, he took the light blue box from his right trouser pocket, the one she wasn't sat next to, and got down on one knee in front of her, a giddy smile playing at his lips. After a few seconds of deep breaths he placed a hand to her knee, indicating that she could open her eyes. As soon as she did, her hand flew to her mouth, tears already threatening to spill.
"I've wanted to do this for so long you have no idea. I wanted to do it last year when we were in LA after the last show, I wanted to do it at Christmas when we were in Holmes Chapel with my family, I wanted to do it at Easter when we were with your family, I wanted to do it in summer when we went to Italy and I wanted to do it when we went to Cabo. I've had the ring hidden for over a year waiting for the perfect time. The only reason I haven't done this before is because I'm shitting myself."
A small chuckle left the both of them, her eyes filling with tears as she watched him intently. He looked straight into her eyes and never moved them from her. "You came into my life when I was so down and felt like I didn't have a place in the music industry, when I felt as though no one would listen to my music and my style. You came into my life when I was a month into the hiatus, and you helped me overcome those feelings. These past three years have been amazing with you and I wouldn't have wished to spend them any other way, with any other person. You make my whole heart burst with your love and care. The way you so easily fell into my life makes me so thankful. Not once in these past three years have you asked me if rumours were true, or told me it was getting too much for you. You've been there through everything, from going to Jamaica to write my album and making my documentary, to filming Dunkirk; to the Premiers, the album release and through the tour. You were there the day I called you from Holmes Chapel to tell you about Robin and you got there within hours. I remember my mum told me that day that she was thankful that you were in our lives and even though I was going through something so horrendous, that was the day I realised I wanted to marry you. I want you to be the woman at my side for the rest of my life. I want to look after you and make you feel beautiful. I want you to be the mother of my children and I want you to be the grandmother to my grandchildren. I love you so much Y/N, will you marry me?"
As he said those last four words, he opened the box to reveal the most gorgeous diamond Y/N had ever seen. No words could be formed to describe the emotions she was feeling. Everything from shock to the most intense form of love she'd ever felt. Tears were falling as she nodded her head frantically, throwing her arms around Harry and pulling him into the tightest hug she could muster. Keeping the box in his hands he held her tightly and kissed her cheek. Once the hug broke she kissed him with more passion than she could imagine.
"Is that a yes?" Harry chucked and Y/N took a step back admiring the ring again; and Harry.
"One million times yes! Oh my god I love you so much!" They kissed again and Harry slipped the ring on her ring finger before holding her hand up to admire it.
"Suits you, love."
"You're the best! Today is the best! Gucci trainers, an IPhone X, a TIFFANY ring AND a fiancé?! Nothing will beat today until the day we get married." The word married caused butterflies to erupt behind Harry's butterfly tattoo. He was getting married. To the woman of his dreams. Married.
"Happy Birthday, love."
