Seeing your father comfort your crying mother was hard for you to watch. She hunches over the dining room table as she wipes her falling tears.

The lamp in the living room was the only light source in your dark house. Rain clouds seemed to roll above in the skies and you grew anxious.

Holding onto the railings of the staircase, your eyebrows curled up. "It's bedtime, Mama..." Your voice was small.

Your mother turns her head to the side and forces a sad smile, "In a minute, sweetie..."

"Just... Go upstairs, [Y/N]." Your father takes a deep breath. "It's best if you don't listen."

Being the only child in this big house, you didn't really have an older sibling to look up too. You always felt lonely, with your parents busy with their work.

"Come back, [Y/N]." The sweet frail voice of your maid was heard at the top of your stairs.

Looking up, you see her gesture towards you with her hand. Although she was your maid, you saw her as your nanny. She was a kind old woman and a great cook too.

You stood up from your hiding spot and made your way up the stairs. As soon as you reached her, she covers you with your blanket.

"Nan, what's wrong with Mama and Papa?" You whispered.

The old woman walks you down the hallway, "A ten-year-old like you shouldn't have to worry about those things yet." She reassured you.

Soon, you reached your room and jumped onto your bed. Nan pats you on the head as she tucks you in.

She gives you a small smile and folds her hands together. "Sweet dreams, [Y/N]."

"Goodnight, Nan..." You sighed.

As she turns around, she was startled by a figure in the dark hallway. Your mother, with her eyes puffy and nose red from crying, slowly enters your room.

Nan breathes out with relief and bows, "Excuse me, Ma'am..." She croaks and shuffles out of your mother's way.

You propped yourself up on your bed as your mother walked closer to you. Nan leaves the room while a shaky sigh came out from her.

Your mother sniffles as she squats down to your height.

"Why were you crying, Mama?" You asked.

She purses her lips and looks away. You eagerly waited for an answer.

"Your father's boss has done something terrible..." Your mother whispers as she pats the hair on your head.

"Boss?" You asked.

"Don Vanetti," She takes a deep breath. "He's heartless."

You tugged at your mother's nightdress, "What happened, Mama?"

Tears built up in her eyes as she slowly shakes her head.

"Papa's coworker was killed... by him..." She lets out a shaky breath. "His poor family was killed too..."

Your eyes went wide with fear, "His family...?" You managed to stutter out.

"You know how it's mostly you and the Nanny in the house?" She tucks a strand of your hair behind your ear.

"Yes...?"

Your mother's eyes go dark, "Please be careful, I know you're a very smart girl..."

"We're not in danger, right Mama?" You asked.

She doesn't respond.

"Mama, we're safe here, right?"

Your mother shifts her gaze away from you.

"Papa's boss won't hurt us, right?" You raised your voice loud enough for your father to hear you in the hallway.

He pokes his head through the door before grumbling to himself. "I thought you were putting her to bed..."

Your mother stands up quickly, but before leaving she gives you a peck on the forehead.

"Mama..." You whimpered.

"Goodnight, [Y/N]..." She smiles.

Your mother towards the door, only to be stopped by your father. He holds her hand gently and his eyebrows furrow.

You stared straight above you, the moonlight from your curtained window reflected onto the white ceiling.

Closing your eyes, you tried to sleep.

"Why would you tell her?" Your father lowers his voice. "She's only a child."

"Those poor boys were the same age as [Y/N], she needs to know so she can be more aware of her surroundings...!" Your mother fires back.

Rubbing his chin, your father huffs in frustration. "As if I'd allow our child to be exposed to that danger."

"The Vanetti's stormed into Testa's home without a second thought..."

"I can still hear you," You exclaimed.

Your mother goes quiet and your father clears his throat. They sigh sadly, you pressed your lips in a firm line, thinking you've said something wrong.

"Papa?" You whispered as he makes his way towards you.

"Goodnight, sweetie." He ruffled your hair to lighten up the mood.

You still felt uneasy but decided to ignore the itching feeling in the back of your head.

Your mother and father take one last look at you before turning off your lamp. They step out of the room and shut the door behind them.

That happened seven years ago.

You smiled at the memory as your fingers twirled around the cord of the phone.

"[Y/N], you're not paying attention..." The muffled voice of a male was heard on the other side.

You leaned back against the office chair, "Forgive me... I got distracted."

He lets out a dry chuckle, "When are you going to take this thing seriously?"

"Listen, it's my money," You countered. "I am serious here."

There was a sigh, "Just as I thought, it's impossible to discuss this over the phone..."

"You're being impatient,"

"[Y/N], I'll meet you tomorrow... I need to speak to you in person." He urges. "List the details then."

You let out a scoffed laugh, "Avilio, you don't know who we're up against."

"I'll know damn well," He grumbles.

"How do I know if you're fit for this job?"

There was shuffling in the other line, "I've killed many people before, I believe I know where and how to hide a body or two."

Your lips curled up into a dark smile, "You better keep to your word, Avilio."

"What kind of hitman would I be if I didn't?" He stated.

Sighing, you slumped against the office desk. "I'm trusting you, so make sure you get the job done."

"See you tomorrow, [Y/N]."

"Goodbye," You said.

With that, Avilio hangs up the phone and you were left in silence.

Smiling under your hand, you laughed to yourself.

"Goodbye, Don..."

You had enough of Don Vanetti, just hearing his name made your stomach turn.

And made your vengeance grow.

This is exciting!
