"Ugh, why are we watching Four Eyes run laps?" Yami grumbled bitterly as he kept shifting uncomfortably on the metal bleachers we were sitting on, overlooking the practice track and field.
"I wanted to cheer him on while he's training for the Sports Festival." I smiled.
"Doesn't that usually entail actual cheering; you're just sitting here." Yami poked at me with a sly smile.
"Oh..." my cheeks reddened, "do you think it would help him if I actually cheered?"
Yami stared at me for a long moment looking taken aback before he shook his head and looked away from me with a silent laugh, "seriously, Ghost Girl, you gotta warn people when you're going to be adorable." He sighed as he lightly patted me on the head.
"Huh?" I blinked at him.
"Nothing, cheer for your Boy Scout in shining armor." He sighed as he leaned back crossing his arms behind his head for a pillow and kicked his feet up on the bench in front of us.
I smiled softly at Yami. I'd told him he could go on home without me, he was more than welcome to keep staying at my place. I thought he'd be bored watching Tenya train but he insisted on coming with me.
Resolving myself I hopped to my feet and cupped my mouth with my good hand as the other was currently useless in a sling with metal rods sticking out of it. I yelled to Tenya as he was about to pass in front of us, "go Tenya! You can do it!" I'd started out strong but ended with a squeak and dropped back onto the bench embarrassed by my outburst.
Though he was really hard to see because he was moving so fast thanks to his engine like quirk, I thought I saw his face turn a bright shade of scarlet. I blinked as I watched him dart past. Did he get faster?
"You two are nauseating." Yami gagged before closing his eyes. Despite his words there was a small serene smile dancing across his painted lips.
Tenya continued training until the sun had made its descent below the horizon and the sky became speckled with starlight. He came to a stop in front of the bleachers panting and gasping for breath. Sweat clung to his brow and I clutched the towel I'd brought from the locker room for him tightly in my good hand. He offered me a princely smile as I scrambled to my feet and ran to meet him.
I tripped on the steps and let out a panicked squeak as I tumbled forward. I heard Yami call out but he was too far to get to me in time. Strong arms encircled me as I somersaulted off the steps. I felt my face burn as I realized Tenya had caught me and was currently holding me in his arms like a princess.
"Are you okay?" He asked me worried.
I blushed and awkwardly tried to drape the towel around his neck so he could towel off but it was proving difficult from my current position and only having one good arm. "S-sorry for causing you trouble when you're so tired from your training. Thanks for saving me again." I replied meekly.
Tenya smiled, "it's no trouble. I'm just glad you're alright."
"Planning on putting down the precious cargo anytime soon, Four Eyes?" Yami grumbled nearby. I glanced over my shoulder to see him leaning against the railing at the top of the steps I'd just tumbled down. He'd made it here pretty fast.
Tenya's cheeks reddened, he appeared to have forgotten he was holding me in his arms like a princess. "Ah, sorry." He gently set me on my feet and smiled as he adjusted the towel, I'd sloppily draped around him. "Thanks, Tara."
