"Robert met Nicole at the corner. It had been a long time; there was much to catch up on. They walked together down the crowded streets. Once again they'd be together, for a while at least.

Now, pick three different genres from the list you learned about in the introduction. Re-write this little paragraph three times—each time as if it were the beginning of a story written in one of the genres you chose."

Robert trailed down the sidewalk. He was on his way to the little corner cafe him and Nicole would always meet each other at and since her departure he hadn't visited the cafe in a long time, a year almost. That's one year too long of not seeing his best friend, his life, his everything.

As he walked closer to the cafe his mind wandered to thinking about her. He was excited to her sparkling eyes, the halo above her head that would always shine brightly even in the darkest of places, her in general. They had so much to catch up on and he was yearning to hear the adventures of her time in heaven with people just like her.

The pristine glass doors greeted him as he walked up to the cafe. It looked exactly the same as it did a year ago with the same dark wood framed doors and cozy welcome sign, even the same dent from when two teenagers got pissed off and kicked the wall was still there.

He walked inside and was greeted with a cheery "Hello!" from a new barista that looked like a demon, and no, not a demon as in rude or looked like he caused trouble, the barista was a demon. The tips of two horns poked out from under his messy hair.

Robert gave the barista a curt nod and looked around, spotting Nicole he grinned and walked over to her.

She didn't seem to notice him standing to the side of her. Her eyes were trained on her book in front of her and she also looked like she was enjoying the general vibe the cafe gave to everyone, warm and welcoming.

Robert cleared his throat and Nicole jumped, the book falling out of her hands. "Oh, hello! I didn't see you there Robert." She let out a light laugh and bent down to pick up her book but Robert had already beaten her too it first and picked it up, handing it to her.

"I could tell." He chuckled. Nicole patted the seat next to her and scooted down the booth so Robert took the chance to sit down next to Nicole. "You look like you haven't changed a bit Nic." Robert rested his head on his hand and looked at her.

Nicole opened her mouth to say something but instead lightly hit his arm and stuck her tongue out at him. "Shut up!" She whisper-yelled at him.

"It's true though, idiot." And it was. Her halo still brightened the whole cafe to the point where they didn't need lights while Nicole was there. Her wings were still pure white, whiter than snow, and her voice was still a never-ending whisper no matter how much she would try and yell at him.

"We have so much to talk about Nic! I've done a lot of things while you were gone and I've been waiting to tell you all about what happened between me and Marissa!" He jumped up and held her hands tightly.

"I'm excited to hear about it." She mumbled, her eyes darting to her untouched coffee.

"Nic? what's wrong."

"It's, uh, nothing Rob." She smiled but it felt distant.

"You can tell me Nic. You can tell me anything."

Her shoulders slumped and she let out a sigh, "Well," she mumbled and looked back at Rob. "I have to leave again. They want me to stay longer for extra training.

Robert's hands dropped. "How long?" He asked.

"Six months."

Robert mouthed an 'oh' and feigned a smile. He whispered, "When?"

"I have two days." She looked away. Silence.

"Look, Rob, I'm really really sorry. I'll come back I promise." She grabbed onto his arm and Robert pulled her into a tight embrace.

Nicole's eyes widened and it took a few seconds for her to hug him back. "You don't have to say sorry Nic. I know you'll come back and besides, we can always message each other. Okay?"

Nicole nodded and shoved her face into the crook of Rob's neck. They stayed like that, in each other's embrace, until the coffee got cold, and even after they separated they kept holding onto one another.

They didn't let each other go until they were forced too, knowing they'd just have to go through the same hard process over and over again. Because a human and an angel could never be together.
