Forgive me, but I was unaware humans came in pre-packaged sets, that a person comes to be known as one section of a larger group. This utterance is akin to referring to a friend as "that". Might I at least be extended the courtesy of having my gender recognized?

Be honest with us. So you've forgotten which name corresponds to which face. It may be a first for you, but it is most assuredly not a first for us. We come to expect the wrong name and often will respond to either one. Venture a guess. If you are wrong, you will be set straight and forgiven.

If you guess the correct name, however, do try not to make a spectacle of yourself. A jubilant "I got it right!" has no value at all to us. If you must celebrate calling someone by her name, please do it quietly.
