Konnichiwa! In this "lesson" you will learn the alphabet. This is the simple alphebet. Later you will learn the extended alphabet.

In japanese, you have each letter as a sound, just like english. But, the alphabet isn't the same. You have 5 main vowels. Those vowels are A, I, U, E, and O. Now, you may have noticed that they aren't in the order that the english vowels are in. That is because this is japanese and they have their own righting system, (dont ask me!!! *-*). The Japanese alphabet has a simple , yet long alphabet. The vowels have sounds that end with that vowel. When you see the alphabet you will understand.

Ka ki ku ke ko. Sa shi su se so. Ta chi tsu te to. (Etc.) The A (alone and with consonant) is pronounced AH, the I pronounced EE, the U pronounced OO, the E pronounced EH, and the O pronounced OH.

If you look you can see the vowels A, I, U, E, and O repeated after each consonants. The consonants don't go in the same order as the english alphabet either, but if you practice, you'll learn them all.

K: Ka, Ki, Ku, Ke, Ko.

S: Sa, Shi, Su, Se, So. (as you can see, there is no sound "si" so they put Shi there)

T: Ta, Chi, Tsu, Te, To. (and again here. There is no sound "ti" or "tu" so the put "Chi" and "Tsu" there)

N: Na, Ni, Nu, Ne, No

H: Ha, He, Fu, He, Ho (and again here for "Fu")

M: Ma, Mi, Mu, Me, Mo.

Y: Ya,       Yu,      Yo.  (This one only needs three vowels because there is no sound "Yi" or "Ye")

R: Ra, Ri, Ru, Re, Ro.

W: Wa, Wo. (and again here there is no sound "wi, wu, we and wo")

Then the lonly N. It is simply just the sound "N".
