"Come out, come out wherever you are~"
Minjun had to stifle her chuckle at Vernon's lame attempt of luring her out of her own hiding place. She could hear the clicking of the paintball gun as she quickly retreated from her hiding place, finding a new one.
She would often shoot a random target that would pop up on the other side of the map, earning her extra points while Vernon was busy trying to find her.
Many times she swore that there were a few close calls with the only other person in the game, but it didn't faze her one bit; instead, she quickly shot the paintballs in the direction she believed he was in, before escaping the area.
She was calmly sitting behind a rock when a pebble suddenly fell on her head. On instinct she looked up, coming face to face with the barrel of another paintball gun.
The owner of the gun was a beautiful mix of Korean and American roses. His smile was dazzling as he cocked the gun. "Hey babe," Minjun quickly rolled away as paint splattered where she once was.
She flashed him her best smile. "Nice to see you too, babe," kissing his trigger finger before running away.
Vernon, startled by the sudden touch, regained his stance and ran after her. "No matter how far you run, I will catch you!"
Minjun's laughed echoed as they both ran through the map dogging obstacles that lay in their path. Many times had their hands grazed each other when Minjun slowed down or Vernon caught up.
They broke through the line of trees and kept running uphill. Running to catch up, Vernon tripped over a rock. He protected his face, but soon lost in racing after her.
His eyes widened as she continued to run straight ahead, laughing at his misfortune. She kept running, only hearing his warning just as walked right into it.
"Cliff!"
Just the word made her lose control over her bodily functions. Her center of gravity off balance, making her stumble on the rocky path ahead of her.
It was only a larger rock that made her lose completely fall over. The mouth of the cliff glides under her body as she was suddenly launched over.
Her panic settled in and instinctively, she grabbed the edge with one hand. Her muscles screamed as she violently started kicking her feet, hoping to grab onto a ledge underneath her. The sickening taste of blood flooded her mouth as she held back the scream. Her nails clawed the arm that held her body, trying to latch itself onto the ledge to pull herself up.
Her eyes grow hazy as memories flash before her. The familiar ledge appeared, the smooth tile edge that made her hands slip once before. If it wasn't for her family, she would―
"Hang on!" Vernon's voice cut through her memories. She could hear pebbles being pushed aside as he hurriedly tried to reach her.
The blood in her mouth grew, coughing it out only made her grip loosen. The coughing intensified as her grip loosened. Fighting through the cough, she told him "I can't!"
Her muscles burned as she continued to hold on.
I can't do this. Minjun, done with hanging around, loosened her hold. I'm sorry I can't.
Just as Minjun let go of her hold, a hand shot out to grab hers. Her eyes snapped up to meet Vernon's, who tried his best to hold her. Their eyes connected and she knew that she couldn't let his efforts go to waste.
It was too late; the ledge that he was standing on broke.
His weight tipped over and they both fell over.
On instinct, Vernon wrapped his arms around her, pulling them closer together. In a second he turned them around as they hit the air mattress that laid three feet underneath the ledge.
The wind knocked out of her, she absentmindedly clutched his shirt, going through all of the body armor that the company placed on him. Their heavy breathing combined together, revealing their efforts.
Minutes of heavy breathing passed, all before Minjun can feel tears pricking her eyes. Soon, she was sobbing insanely hard, not letting Vernon go from her clutches nor hearing what he had to say.
He sighed, knowing that he wasn't able to escape from her and her hysteria. Instead, he held her dear to him, not letting her go even after she had calmed down.
"Don't worry," he kissed her head as she dabbed her tears away. "You can only fall for me."
