My eyes fluttered open on the wintry morning in London. I sat up in the ice cold bed as I stretched my arms. I turned to the clock that read 4am, and I sheepishly rolled out of bed.
I hated the army shifts. I worked at a train station and gave out train tickets at the booth all day. I swapped shifts with my best friend, Kirstie, as this weekend her and her fiancé were getting married. I was invited, but as I'm the only person who doesn't go out with anyone or have anything else to do- I'm the only one working. Well- Steve is working too. He seems like a nice guy with black hair and some stubble- but we've never spoken. As I got into work, I opened up my booth and wiped away some frost on the window. I grabbed my jacket and zipped it up as it was freezing.
All morning I watched the trains zoom past. Especially as at 5am nobody seems to get in a train. There was a plain awkward silence between me and Steve and the sounds of trains filling the air.
I paced my head onto the desk as I was so tired and bored. That was until there was a gentle knock on my booth's window. I quickly looked up and saw a man- around my age smiling softly at me. I opened up the window allowing the frosty breeze to fly through.
"I'm so sorry" he said to me in a posh London accent. I smiled softly at the man wearing a black velvet-like winters coat.
"No, I'm sorry. That was very unprofessional. What can I get you?" I asked, my tiredness evident in my voice.
"A ticket to Surrey please" he asked politely with a smile. I smiled at him as I handed him his ticket.
"Thank you" he replied with another warm smile as he softly grabbed the ticket from my hand. I couldn't help but smile as he walked away.As I watched him get into the train, I couldn't help but let the smile remain on my lips. However, I didn't make it that subtle, as Steve began laughing in the booth beside me.
"What?" I embarrassingly asked.
"You may as well be drooling" he joked. "Why didn't you just ask him out?" Steve asked.
"Someone like him?? Nooo" I said as I shook my head.
"Why not?" Steve asked. "I could put a word in for you" Steve said. I stared at him confused. "We're like best friends" Steve said.
"No your not!" I said, unconvinced by his words.
"Seriously, we are. When he comes back I'll prove it to you!!"*****
Around 5pm, Brooke turned up for her shift. I grabbed my things as she came into my booth to start off her shift. I heard a knock on the booth beside me, which was Steve, pointing towards the last train, which I saw the same guy from this morning.
"Hey Luke!" Steve shouted as Luke came walking down, towards the booths.
"Hey Steve" he replied back in his gorgeous British accent. I smiled at Steve, showing him the you win look. Luke stopped outside of my booth. I looked up to see Brooke practically drooling all over him.
"One ticket back to Central London please" he requested.
"Sure thing sweetheart" she replied. "I'm Brooke, by the way" she said. Brooke was so beautiful. She has gorgeous brown curls in her hair, beautiful face and stunning personality. She was a great friend, and she was way much more beautiful than I could ever be.
"I'm Sal" he replied as he awaited his ticket.
"Well Sal, how would you like to go on a date with me.. this Friday?" Brooke asked. (And I forgot to mention- she was very confident!)
I saw in the corner of my eye, Sal glance over at me.
"Uh.. no thanks" he replied. I awkwardly met his eyes and smiled. Broke handed him his ticket in silence.
"Can I get one to Central London, please?" I asked her. She quickly handed me my ticket as I began to walk away.
"Bye Guys!" I shouted as I zipped up my hoodie. In front of me I saw Sal begin to slow down until he eventually stopped and turned around. I was so confused but I kept walking and pretended I didn't notice. That was until he spoke to me.
"Hi" he said in his luscious New York accent.
"Hiya" I replied with a smile.
"You were the girl who gave me my ticket this morning, right?" He asked.
"Yep, that was me" I said sweetly.
"I remember.. you have those lovely blue eyes" he told me with a smile. I immediately began to blush.
"Thank you" was the only words I managed to say.
"So your heading back to Central London?" He asked, glancing at my ticket.
"Yeah" I said. "I know you are too" I added with a light laugh.
"Yep. I'm visiting my mum" he explained.
"I live in the Westminster area" I told him.
"Me too!" He said with amazement in his face. "What's your name?" He asked.
"Emily" I replied.
"Thats a beautiful name" he replied with a smile."How do you feel..maybe taking the train together?" Sal asked me.
"Sure" I replied with a smile.*****
The next morning I sat at my booth, as the frosty air danced around me. I noticed Sal walking down. Yesterday, we talked for the whole journey home, and is be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to seeing him.
He stood outside of my booth as he smiled at me, which warmed me up.
"One ticket to Surrey please" he requested. I slipped his ticket through the booth window, as he slipped a piece of paper through a s he walked away. I unfolded the paper to see he wrote
"I'd love to take you in a date sometime- call me, Sal xx" as he left his number on the back. I smiled to myself as I wasted no time in texting him
