Chapter Five
I gave myself a moment to catch my breath before hunting down Rowan. Now at least I know why my gut seems to always be right about where he is.

I followed that feeling all the way to the meeting room. I ignored the looks I got as I walked through town to get there. I'm sure people barely even recognize me at this point. I don't even want to know what I look like.

It didn't take long to get to the meeting room. I paused outside of it, trying to collect myself. What I heard inside as I paused made my eyebrows furrow.

They were chanting. Together. So many different voices at once, way more than the usual amount in this meeting room. And they were chanting my name.

"For Freya," they yelled.

What the hell?

Well, now is a better time than any to burst into the room and make my presence known. And I did just that.

"If I knew you guys were going to join a cult the second I left, maybe I wouldn't have came back," I joked as I entered the room.

The entire room went silent as all eyes turned toward me. I raised my eyebrows at the turn out of the room. It's a perfect blend of fae and demons alike, and they are all standing up in harmony. The most surprising of it all was the king and queen, sitting side by side. What the hell did I miss?

And then the room erupted into chaos. A lot of people began to talk at once. Aiden, Amilia and Cameron came running in my direction. Before I knew what was happening, I was engulfed into a large group hug.

I sagged into their hold, relief flowing through every single one of my muscles. They are okay. They are really okay.

"What the hell happened," Amilia questioned.

I opened my mouth to explain, but the king's booming voice cut me off. "Everyone except for Freya and Rowan, OUT!"

No one had to be told twice. Everyone rushed out of the room. Aiden, Amilia and Cameron hesitated. They sent a quick smile my way before following the crowd out of the room. My mother stayed as well, but that was a given.

Rowan came to stand at my side. I tensed, but didn't say anything. Now is not the time.

I thought it would take a little longer for you to save yourself, he teased inside my head. I ignored him.

Rowan furrowed his eyebrows. Are you okay?

I ignored that too and turned to the king.

"What happened," he questioned me.

"I escaped," I shrugged.

The king rolled his eyes. "I see that."

Before I could explain further, he was in my head. I clenched my teeth hard, but didn't fight him. That would've just made it worse.

I felt him flipping through the memories of the week I was gone. I saw the moment he passed through the revelation of Rowan being my mate. He didn't seem surprised, but he did send a sidelong glance my way. Of course he knew. Why am I even surprised?

Once he was done, he slowly removed himself from my head and nodded. "Why am I not surprised that you managed to find a way out yourself? We shouldn't have even worried about saving you. No queen needs to be saved."

I dipped my head low in recognition.

My mother turned to me, her eyes full of the worry the king's eyes lacked. "Are you okay?"

"Just peachy."

She eyed me for a moment, but didn't say anything else.

"If you don't mind, I'm really tired. I could use a nap. Or 50."
