Chapter Twelve
I woke up the next morning with my legs thrown over Rowan's and his arm over my stomach. My 4:30 am alarm blared, but Rowan stayed still. I groaned and turned over so that I could turn off the alarm. Rowan barely even stirred. That boy could sleep through a hurricane.
Once I got the blaring to stop, I sighed and laid back down. We only slept for another hour, but it felt like so much longer. I actually feel pretty rested. The thought of getting up and trying to train a bunch of people for a war we have no idea who will win makes me feel a little bit like I'm going to vomit all over the floor.
Rowan groaned beside me, distracting me. He subconsciously moved closer to me, his arm finding its way back over my stomach. I stifled the laugh I really wanted to let out, instead watching to see if he would wake up. Belle slithered over his arm slowly, her eyes on me. I smiled down at her, placing my hand on Rowan's arm. She quickly lifted off of his skin to nuzzle up against my hand.
I scooped her into my arms and allowed her to slither along my body. I giggled at the sensation, causing Rowan to open one eye. "You're loud," he muttered, stifling a yawn.
I ignored him, keeping my attention on Belle. She slithered up my arm and onto my shoulder, probably searching for Bruce. Bruce came off my shoulder quickly, giving Belle a large lick. Bruce ran from the bed to the middle of the floor, with Belle following close behind. Once she was safely on the ground, he playfully pounced onto her. That began a playful wrestle amongst the two of them.
Rowan came up behind me and pulled me down. I laughed as I slammed onto his chest. Rowan grinned up at me, clearly satisfied with himself.
"We have to leave in a few minutes," I warned him.
Rowan ignored me, instead bringing his soft lips to my neck.
"We have to train," I tried again, but my voice came out much softer the second time around.
Rowan grinned against my neck, but still didn't speak. Instead, his lips moved against my neck, cutting off any protests I might have had. Before I even knew what was happening, he was flipping us so that he was on top of me.
He pulled away from my neck just enough to look into my eyes. They were darker than normal. Much, much darker. "We were interrupted last time."
"And we're going to be interrupted again if you don't knock it off," I reminded him halfheartedly. Not even a small bit of me wanted him to stop.
"We'll see," he grinned before his lips were on mine.
I responded instantly. Our lips moved in sync, a fire behind every movement. Rowan shifted so that one hand was on either side of my head, his leg placed in between my own. All without breaking the connection of our lips.
My hands found their way to his back, gripping the shirt covering him. I bunched it up until my hands touched skin. He shivered as my fingers brushed against his back, my nails digging in. Rowan grunted against my lips. His teeth found my bottom lip and bit gently. I gasped, and that's all he needed to enter his tongue into my mouth. This time, it was my turn to groan.
Rowan braced himself on one arm while the other one found the hem of my shirt. He pushed the material up and up until his hand was against my bare stomach. He didn't stop there, though. His hand wandered up and up and up. When his thumb brushed against the swell of my breast, I let out a moan.
Rowan's lips moved from mine to my neck. He placed kisses all the way down the trail, his lips barely moving from my skin. I arched my back into the movement, causing a low growl to erupt from his throat. His hand moved up higher, cupping my-
