Chapter Ten

The second the meeting was over, Rowan and I began preparations. If we are about to start a war, we must begin to prepare our people. Mandatory training will have to be put in place. We can't take any chances of our people being defenseless if they break through our borders.

Those who actually choose to be a part of the fight will have to start vigorous training. No one is going to be happy about 5 am training every day, but it is what will keep them safe.

I want to continue to integrate the fae and the demons to work side by side, but the fae that are here also need to go home and train their own people. So three times a week, we will plan for all of the fae warriors to come train with the demon warriors. The other days, they will train separately.

"I think we should do one day where we train here, and one day where we train in the fae realm. The third can switch between the two. That way our people are familiar with fighting on both turfs," I suggested to Rowan.

He hummed in response, busy writing out orders for his men.

"I might need to go to the fae realm for a few days and get things in order."

That caught Rowan's attention. His head shot up from what he was doing and his lips turned down in a frown. "I don't think separation would be very good for us right now."

I rolled my eyes. "It'll only be for a few days. My people need to know that I am there for them, and that I will keep them safe. I can't hide out in this realm forever. I need to start splitting my time equally."

Rowan began tapping his fingers on the desk. "I don't think you understand what the separation of mates entails."

I shrugged. "Until this war is over, we are going to have to make it work."

"Alright," Rowan sighed. "But we can't be separated for more than a week."

Before I could respond, my mother came gliding into the room. "You're both right. Freya needs to be there for her fae people. But she also cannot be separated from Rowan for very long. Freya, I plan on taking you with me back to the fae realm for the weekend. I think it would be good for you to help with the training of your people for a while. You will be gone only 4 days of demon time."

I nodded. "That's what I was thinking as well."

"Very good. We leave in a few hours."

A few hours later, I stood in front of a large portal with Amilia and Cameron at my side. Everyone else had already gone through. Now it's our turn.

"You guys don't have to go with me," I reminded them for the 5th time.

"I have to face my parents," Amilia sighed, straightening her shoulders as best as she could.

Cameron shrugged. "Wherever she goes, I go."

I nodded. Still, I didn't go through. I knew Rowan and Aiden would be pissed if I left before they could come say goodbye. We will only be gone a few days, but everyone seems pretty reluctant to separate.

Sure enough, Rowan and Aiden approached not a moment later.

"Do you have to go," Aiden whined as he walked over and pulled me into a tight hug.

"It's just a few days," I laughed. "I'll be back before you know it."

"But it's going to be so boring without you here. And Rowan is unbearable when you aren't around."

I let out a loud laugh as Rowan punched Aiden in the arm.

"He will be fine. It's not that long guys, really," I tried to reassure them.
