Chapter 3: Worn out

The sun was at its highest. The heat beat down on my head like I was bacon under the grill. I could almost smell myself cooking. I stood in my own shadow puddle with crisp edges that moved as I swayed in the sultry heat. It was Midday. They say only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun. I'm not English. So I guess I must be a mad dog. And by the way I'm obeying Levi's orders I'm definitely some type of dog.

I'm still not completely sure why I'm trying to help them or anything. Even thought training wasn't that hard, I had my share of mistakes and such but that's because everything was new to me. I performed well on the 3dmg training device I didn't shake or move a muscle. Well, I did use my muscles to keep me up straight but that's beside the point. Part of me was thankful that my mother forced me into playing gymnastics as a kid. I did manage to keep perfect balance.

Speaking of my mother, did she realize I was missing? Probably not, she barely even calls me let alone visits me. My only friend went on vacation, well that leaves no one. No one is aware of my disappearing, well that's sad.

"Hey! Don't daydream you brat! Focus on your targets" Levi's voice roared into my ears and whisked me back to reality, as if you could call it that.

This was the second training I had to do, slashing napes of fake titans. Again I did pretty well, even though some of my cuts weren't that neat. I still managed to get an average amount of kills in 30 minutes.

I breathed heavily, and watched Levi swing to the branch near me, I can't lie and say that everything was easy, it was tiring and I felt fatigued. All I need right now is some sleep. But that doesn't seem the case. "If you keep dozing off you'll be titan food in no time" I couldn't even muster the strength to reply to him and he was now aware of my poor state. "Suck it up for now, we only have one training to do and you can rest later" I looked at him and nodded , shortly following him with my gear.

Lastly, hand to hand combat. I could see Levi's muscles from under his jacket, that's how strong he looks. You could simply state that I'm not nearly as ready to even jokingly punch the guy. I started sweating, I couldn't identify it being from the hard training or for my nervousness. This fight isn't fair like at all. This was my first time actually fighting some one. It could only go one way, wrong.

He put up his hands guarding his face and I mimicked his action. Then he started moving and I panicked, he threw a punch at me and I dodged it. It went like that for quite a while, he would throw a punch or a kick and I would dodge them. I knew that I couldn't keep running away so I tried to try something different, let's just say that it was a bad idea.

My plan was to pretend that I couldn't defend myself, and I was really tired. If he falls for it and tries to take advantage of my weakened state, I'll land a punch on him. Therefore he would be surprised and I'll take advantage of that and land more punches. He moved to land a kick this time and i blocked it, as I predicted it took him by surprise 'oh yeah!!' though I did celebrate too early.

I held his left leg with my left arm and I attempted to land a punch at his beautiful face. A sudden gush of pain jolted throughout my body. My stomach ached, my arms lost tension and my legs began to weaken. "He will not get the better of me," I thought as I dropped to the ground releasing his leg in the process. My tongue was soaked in the taste of blood. Bruised and winded, with a leg in agony, I grabbed the foot of the captain and pulled him to the ground. My head was pounding. I brought a fist to the captain's face, snapping his nose into a grotesquerie.

I couldn't believe myself I actually landed a punch at his face; I had enough of fighting so I got up from him sitting beside him. I could feel my yes starting to close but I fought it with the last bit of energy I had. He got up the ground and looked at me. I had my gaze fixed on the ground, my legs crossed. There's a certain level of tiredness that equates to insanity; for me it's when I'd like to temporarily dislocate my spirit from my body. I'm a fairly brave person, I am, but sometimes I just don't want to feel the process of recovery all over again. I know that I'll wake up feeling like shit in the morning.

"You did great today, if you keep it up you'll catch up in no time. Now get up I'll take you to the infirmary" that's what I needed to hear at this moment. I'm not sure why I wanted to impress the captain although this may be true, hearing the tiniest amount of praise made this whole experience more tolerable.

I used my strength and got up, following him while he led the way. After this, everything seemed blurry, I did manage to get to the mess hall and catch some food in order to stay alive, and I met some people and caught some names. The cadets were nice enough to show me the dormitories. I assumed that the commander told them about me and my whereabouts. Although this may be true, I can assure you that the first thing I did when I arrived at the dormitories was to crash on the nearest bed. I didn't care if it belonged to someone, I was mine for the night and no one can prove me wrong.
