I'm Not Sure What Happened

chapter 19

When I wake up Alex is asleep with his arm around me, leaning up against the window. Jack's eyes are focused on the road. I see him glance at me in the rearview mirror.

"If your hungry there some food on the cooler," he says focusing his eyes back on the road.

I don't move not wanting to wake Alex. He looked so peaceful a sleep up against the window. I watch the front window. After a while Jack parks at a gas station. Alex shifts a bit and I move my head to look up at him. I see him looking down at me smiling.

Jack says breaking the silence, "We just stopped to take a break. If you want I can come with you two inside. Also I'll be sending you a few pictures."

I sit up and Jack gets out opening up our door. Alex and I climb out and follow him inside. I go to the bathroom and try to fix my hair the best I can in the mirror. I don't pull it up though. I meet Alex and Jack back in the small store at the gas station.

"Do you want something to eat?" Asks Jack.

"Sure." I reply.

We head over to the candy and pick out a few things with Jack. Alex and I wait for Jack by the front door as he pays. We then head out to the car and get back in. Jack hands us each a candy bar and turns on the car. We head back down the road with the two other undercover police cars in front of us. My dad had to be in one of them but I wasn't sure which one.

I finish my candy bar setting the wrapper next to me on the seat. Music was playing and no one says anything. I look over to see Alex just looking out the window. I decided to open my backpack and pull out my sketchbook to give me something to do. I turn so I'm facing Alex and lean up against my backpack.

I pull up my legs and start sketching Alex looking out the window. I hear him quietly singing to the music but I don't say anything knowing that he would stop right away. I slowly start humming to the music as I sketch. He suddenly stops singing and looks over at me. I stop humming and quickly look up.

"Don't move, look back out the window." I quickly say.

"Why?"

"Because, you'll see after."

He rolls his eyes at me smiling and then looks back out the window. I finish the outline and go back to working on the detail.

"Can I stop looking out the window yet?"

"Yeah go ahead but no peeking."

I pull my knees up closer making sure he can't see the drawing. Suddenly Alex's head gets in my way blocking my sketchbook.

"Hey! I told you no peeking!'

I push his head out of the way.

"Fine then but it looks good."

I glare at him as he pulls out his phone. I finished sketching and then I look up seeing him watching me.

"Is it done?"

"Yeah...but I don't know if I should let you see it anymore."

"Oh come on!"

"What!?"

"I can show you what you could sketch next."

"What is it?"

He hands me is phone.

"Look through the pictures but I want to look at your drawing." He says not letting me take his phone.

"Fine."

I hand him the sketch book as he let's go of his phone. I start scrolling through the pictures. There was one of me sketching along with the pictures when we were just messing around with his phone. I hand him back his phone and he hands me back my sketchbook.

"I really like it. Do you want me to send you the picture of you sketching?"

"Sure but I'm not going to be drawing that anytime soon."

He just smiles at me. I pick up my phone and look at the pictures that Jack had sent me earlier and Alex just sent. I pull up the picture of Alex and I looking at each other. I slowly start sketching it. We finally make it to the next place. I hadn't finished my sketch but it was already late. We all meet each other inside. This house only had one room. I didn't want to be rude and take it. I put down my stuff in the living room grabbing some pajamas to go change in the bathroom. Once I get changed I come back out.

"So...who wants to take the bedroom?" asks William.

"I'll stay out here." I say.

It stays quiet for a bit and then Alex says, "I'll stay out here two."

"Well since there two beds in there I guess William and I will stay in the bedroom while you two stay out here with Jack." says my dad.

They head into there room with Officer Moore. Officer Stone and Detective Cooper stay out in the car while Jack stays with us in the living room.

"You wanna take the couch?" Alex asks me.

"No, you can have it."

"But I would rather you get the couch. I can sleep on the floor."

"Well I'm not taking the couch."

"It you two are going to take the couch I will." says Officer Jack.

"Go ahead." I say sitting on the ground.

My dad comes back handing us each a pillow. Each of us pull out our blankets. I get as comfortable as I can on the floor. Alex lays down not to far from me as Jack lays down on the couch. I finally fall asleep despite the uncomfortable ground.
