the sun feels incredibly nice on sam's skin, warm golden rays reflecting on his pale skin. birds are singing, the whistle of the wind is present but faint, breeze caressing the blonde's cheeks softly.

despite the beautiful weather, the park is nearly empty, apart from a couple of kids playing on the grass while their parents carefully watch over them, and an elderly couple that walks by the bench the boy is perched on. his legs are tucked under his upper body, hands resting in his lap and blue eyes dancing over his surroundings. they're familiar, perhaps too familiar, but for once sam can't bring himself to feel regretful. nostalgia, however, still makes itself known in his heart, a tiny smile creeping to his lips.

throwing his head back, he lets his eyelids slip shut, basking in the heat of the sun. it's the first time he's gone outside by himself in a long time, usually elton and corey would be adamant that one of them tags along, but it's their anniversary. four years ago, elton was asking corey on a date with a stupidly big bouquet of roses that was so unlike him sam still can't comprehend how it happened. his best friend was always so tough and had a lot of pride, but all of that seems to crumble whenever corey's around.

for once, sam can feel himself enjoying the moment. for once, being alone is nice, refreshing, nearly comforting. a content sigh escapes him, soft pink lips just barely parted. it's so calm, he could probably fall asleep if-

"excuse me sir, is this seat taken ?"

blue eyes snap open. shock settles in quickly, mixed with disbelief and a bit of excitement. head snapping to the side, his gaze falls onto the familiar figure.

brown hair tousled, ocean eyes wide and grin brighter than the sun. a stripped red and black shirt hangs off one of his shoulders, tan, firm chest bare and glowing in the sunlight. the brunet runs a hand through his locks quickly, nervously, though his worry doesn't reach his face.

sam's lashes flutter, mouth hanging open as words leave his head in no time. he stutters out a pathetic excuse of a greeting, but doesn't even reach the end of the word and he settles for staying silent instead.

so the other does the talking for him.

"hi," it's soft and laced with giddiness, "long time no see, huh ?"

all sam can do is nod, processing the information before he remembers how to use his voice, "y-yeah. it's been a while," then he smiles slightly, gesturing to the spot next to him on the bench.

the brunet doesn't need to be told twice. he sits down, legs stretched out in front of him and crossed at the ankles. he rests his elbows on the back of the bench, making sure he's comfortable before he turns his head towards sam, "anw man, it's so hot i feel like i'm gonna melt."

"still as good at handling heat, i see," sam states in a playful tone, a smirk creeping to his lips.

the brown-haired boy elbows sam jokingly, a small chuckle coming from him, "shut up."

"nah," sam shakes his head, "not possible," he slowly rotates his body on the bench so that he's facing him, gaze curious, "how have you been, colby ?"

the question doesn't take the brunet by surprise. if anything, it's like he's expected it, because it's only two seconds later that he says, "i've been great. life is ... good," he stops to contemplate, taste his words before they spill out with confidence, "yeah, life is good."

"cool."

colby tilts his head to the side, "what about ya ?"

sam gives a simple nod, "life is good as well."

silence dawns on the two, it only holds a bit of awkwardness, because they haven't seen one another in so long, they haven't seen one another since they broke up.
