She walked up to me. She had another of her puzzles. Her face always lit up when she brought those puzzles. She sat next to me and began to tinker around with her puzzle. This one was a simple square one with four pieces.
She easily solved it and put it back together. She turned to me and showed me the puzzle. "You wanna try?" She sweetly asked.
I took the puzzle gently. As I did she pulled out a little pouch. They were filled with other puzzles. She began to tinker around with those puzzles, but still checking up on my progress.
She did this often. She would bring a new puzzle to solve and have me try to solve it. She was a little annoying but she was just trying to make more friends. I had to admit the puzzles were fun to do.
I seemed to go nowhere with the puzzle. She giggled and asked, "Need help?"
I nodded and had her take the puzzle. She shook a few times and it fell apart. Her excitement sparked in her eyes. The excitement always made her chocolate brown eyes more beautiful.
I copied what she did and the puzzle fell apart. She became excited for me. She always became excited when other people could solve her puzzles. Her smile was wide and genuine.
My dad walked by. I stood up and gave her back her puzzle, waving goodbye. She waved back. I noticed that my stomach had some butterflies when I thought about her.
She was sweet and all, but I didn't think she would be interested in me. She might like Rex or George. They were both athletic and went to her school.
I needed to wait out my feelings. She probably liked someone else. She would probably be in a relationship with some other guy before I could even date.
———————————————————————————
Well that was a surprise. She had told me she liked me. Though it was rushed, she told me she liked me first. I was a little shocked. She likes me. Why and how long?
All this runs through my head as I'm talking with her. I hate these dances but I know she loves them. We talk the whole night. Mostly about stupid stuff or what pops into her head.
She definitely is very honest and open. She doesn't seem to be someone who knows when to stop talking. She has a crush on me but she is so chill with talking to me.
She doesn't even know how I feel towards her and she is still comfortable being so open. How can she be so open yet be so mysterious? She doesn't make a lot of eye contact. This must be what she does when she gets nervous.
We hear them announce that the dance is almost over. She looks a little sad but happy at the same time. She mentions something about her talk.
"I think that it'll be great," I responded and add almost absentmindedly, "I might not be the best source for that because I'm a bit biased."
As it slips out, I hope she doesn't catch it like she missed some of my hints earlier. I am unfortunately unlucky this time. She perks up like she just realized something.
"What do you mean you're biased?" She playfully teases.
I try to back away, but she is persistent. I finally blurt out, "It is because I like you."
She practically jumps to the roof, she is so excited. She waves goodbye and runs away, excited.
Later on we are trying to figure out Steve's crush. Someone shouts her name. I immediately say it's not possible. They call me out as my face flushes.
I can now say that I liked her. We didn't immediately change. In fact we didn't change for a while. We stayed close, but not a couple yet.
I liked this but her family didn't seem to approve. Not of me, but of us not getting serious faster. I could see how much it frustrated her, but I couldn't do anything.
I did began to distance myself from her. It's because I wanted to know this wasn't a phase. I didn't want to hurt her more by leading her on or dragging her in my issues.
Even though it all she stayed waiting. She wasn't waiting for her prince to come back. She waited for someone that was ready. She was waiting for someone that was going to care for her. If I could I wish that I could show her how much I appreciate her.
...beautiful wishful thinking.
