I had just finished making me a grilled cheese and tomato soup when the doorbell rang. When I heard the walkie vibrate next to me. I had been carrying it around, but too afraid to use it. I picked it up pressing the button holding it up to my mouth.
"Hello?" I spoke through releasing the button.
"Little dove," Damien silky voice came through sending a shiver down my spine. "Open the back door for me, will ya".
I thought about it for a minute, before making my way back there seeing him leaning against the door with his usual cheeky grin. I opened it up, as he came right in.
"Do you need something?" I asked crossing my arms at him.
"Are you really still upset?" He retorted back, walking around the house as I watched him intently.
"I don't like being called names. And please don't touch anything!" I pleaded, seeing him awfully close to my father's book shelf. He would surely flip a switch if he saw one of his books out of place.
"The lost diety? What is that?" He asked knitting his eyebrows at me, as he read the book titles. He's a God of sorts. A powerful being sent to bring life and light to all those who believe", I began as I noticed Damien let out an awfully dramatic yawn, which I actually picked up on.
"Sorry, I just.... I thought you guys believe in Jesus Christ and all".
"I told you, it's not like that. We believe in an entity on a different level of Jesus. Where Jesus sacrificed himself for others, This deity believes in the sacrifice of those who he has called to worship him", I explained. It was hard for people to grasp and understand. It would be easier to have a fellow member of the church to explain this stuff. It surely wasn't my place.
"Like what?" He asked turning away from the bookshelf and continued examining the rest of my house.
"Well... I'm actually not too sure. I will make the sacrifice on my 18th birthday though. That's in three months", I told him, a bit excited for what they call my transformation.
"So you're supposed to make a sacrifice on something you don't even know?" He asked per usual. And per usual, I didn't really have a good explanation. Just that my parents would tell me when I was ready. He then disappeared around the corner and that was when fear struck me. I took off after him, just as his hand came close to the one door I didn't want him anywhere near.
"STOP!" I hollered as he jumped a little at the base of my voice. "Damn little dove, i've never heard you get so aggressive. It's kind of hot", he told me with a half smile on his face.
I ran up to him standing in front of the door, with my head down. "I think you need to leave Damien", I spoke softly. If he opened this door, who knows what he would think. The fear nearly burst out of my chest as he came so close.
"What? Look I didn't know your parents religious worship shrine would be through there, okay?" He spoke, once again annoying me at his once again demeaning comments.
"Yeah, well it's time for my hourly worship time, so leave", I said a bit more bold than before. I wanted to see Damien every second of the day, and couldn't wait for a chance to have him over when my parents left, but now I just wanting him gone. Maybe I felt weird about our kiss, or maybe I just knew it could become nothing. I was already promised to someone else.
Damien let out a sigh backing up, before I felt his presence leave. I sat there for a moment relieved to once again be alone. After a minute went by, I went to head back to the kitchen when the front doorbell rang. What was damien thinking. Didn't I just kick him out?!
