I felt sad Sunday morning, as I finished cleaning up the kitchen. I did one more sweep around the house, to make sure nothing was out of place, before my parents arrived home. I knew they would be here soon. They never came back later than noon, so I would be expecting them soon, with a fine check of the who
"He said he saw the light shining through your eyes," She glowed as I turned around with a smile."Really?" I questioned bring them their lemonade, happy to hear Edward talked good about me. I know it made them proud.
"Oh yes honey. The time is getting closer and closer. I remember when I was your age. Your Grandmother had thrown me i na world of sin, and thankfully I met the followers who showed me the right way. And when I was placed with your father, I knew there were great things ahead of us," she spoke grabbing my hand firmly, tears blinking in her eyes. "Now, you are going to do the same, and Edward is your perfect match. That is why we have decided to allow you and Edward both join us next month on our retreat. I feel it is the perfect time, with your birthday coming up in just a few short months.
Mother was now clasping my hands tightly, her eyes beaming at me in a way she had never before. It was as if I actually made her proud. And a part of my heart sank as I knew I wasn't as holy as she thought I was to be. And my sins were wearing me down like an anchor and I found it hard to breath.
"Honey, I know it's all a bit overwhelming," my father suddenly spoke up as he appeared next to me. "I see amazing things ahead for you Winter. My little light is going to explode soon enough, and this retreat will open up your eyes and prove if you are really ready to fully commit." He told me, only making me more nervous. I should drop to my knees and confess my sins right here and now, and pray they forgive me. But my mind went to the worst place possible. I didn't want to go there, and if they knew what I did with Damien I don't think i'd be let out. So I pulled my mother into a hug and embraced that I made them proud. As we pulled away, I went back to the kitchen to put away the lemonade. Mother and father began walking upstairs, when it suddenly hit me. The treat Damien had given me! It was still sitting on the...
"Winter!" I heard bellowing out from my mother's voice. Fear struck me down to my core, as I slowly heard the steps creak. Each step made my heart race faster, knowing i was about to be caught. Amy mother reached the bottom of the steps she held up the white bag in front of my face.
"What is this"? She asked.
I knew my complexion turned pale, as my father emerged next to her, the same look of disdain. "It's... it's", I stuttered struggling to figure out what to say. How could i be so stupid to leave that right on my desk. I cleaned everything else up, but left that there not even thinking.
Mother opened the bag and pulled out the chocolate dessert. It looked so good and rarely would i get the chance to indulge in a sweet so sugary and delicious. "Where did you get this from? Did you leave the house? Did Edward bring this! How dare he disrespect us!" She hollered as I shook my head no profusely.
"No mother, of course not! It was... it..", I knew i couldn't tell her about Damien. I would never see daylight again. "It was some kid going door to door. I told him no thank you, but he left it anyway and said it was free", i lied, hoping it was somewhat believable. I mean, people knock on our door all the time selling stuff, but the free part would be the hard part to convince them.
"He didn't want anything in return for this? I find that very hard to believe!" Mother yelled once again. And as usual father sat back silently allowing her to scold me.
"I... i was really emotional after my prayers, when he knocked. He must of felt sympathy for me. I'm sorry mother. I'm so sorry"! I sobbed. I sobbed out of fear of punishment, but also guilt for having to lie to them this way. I was always so honest with them. I never had a reason to lie, but I knew with this i didn't have a choice. Especially if I wanted to keep seeing Damien.
