Nine months wasn't as long as Keith hoped it would be.

It seemed to be the case that one day, he felt the baby kicking, smiling and laughing with Lance, joking about how the baby was going to be a natural paladin with Keith's strength. It seemed that it was only yesterday they were trying to think of names, for either a boy or girl, thinking of none, cackling at the ridiculous suggestions they came up with. Even the name 'Yorak' had reared its head during that unsuccessful conversation. It seemed like a few hours ago he'd been held, insecure and despairing at his size - as well as how difficult it would be to exercise to lose the baby weight after the birth -, reassured and comforted by not only Lance, not just him, but Hunk, Pidge, Shiro, Coran and surprisingly Allura as well.

It was like the baby had brought them all closer. Had made Keith feel that bit more important.

It was a few minutes ago the pain started.

Of course, the half breed thought nothing of it, a dull pain at first which was only panicked over when the contractions got to twenty minutes apart.

He gasped in pain as the intensity of it increased, like he was being stabbed from the inside. It had been fortunate he'd been in the main living area of the ship, having been contemplating sleep cross the bunks.

Hands moved to grasp the front of the sweatshirt covering the large bump, Keith biting his lip to try and deal with the pain. Once it was deemed dull enough, he shakily stood, shuffling to the door to try and call someone, to try and find someone at least.

Carefully, the pregnant paladin moved through the doorway and down the hall, embarrassed as he felt his legs becoming slick, looking down and feeling his stomach drop.

Wasn't the water supposed to break at the start of labour? Though Pidge had told him anywhere from the first stage to the second stage.

That meant that this was happening.

This was really happening.

He stood, frozen.

Legs shaking as he panicked internally. What if he found no one? What if he had to try and deliver the baby on his own?

The next contraction hit soon, and it hit hard. Far worse than before.

He couldn't stop the yell of pain that left him, tears gathering in his eyes and spilling down his cheeks. God it was awful, he wanted it to stop.

He wasn't ready for this!

It during the panic that three heavy sets of footfalls could be heard, Keith barely able to force himself to look, to see Lance rushing towards him to try and catch him before his legs could give out, Shiro and Coran quickly behind him.

"Keith!" In the Cuban's arms, Keith felt stable, comforted for a second, the aftereffects of the crushing pain starting to fade. "What's wrong? What's happening? Is it the baby?"

"Pain-!" The red paladin gasped, grasping onto his lover's shirt tightly. "It's ...They're coming!"

There was only a second of silence before Keith was hoisted up into Shiro's arms, the metal of the prosthetic was going to need to be wiped down, but there was no time for that and not a thought spared for it.

"Infirmary, now!" Shiro ordered, Coran quickly following on one side, Lance on the other, the eldest of the three asking the questions which would be asked at any standard hospital.

How far apart were the contractions? How bad was the pain on a scale of one to ten? Did Keith want to give birth? Or did he want a C section?

At that, there was a firm shake of his head. No, no way, he needed the pain to stop, but he going to try and push despite how he was feeling so vulnerable and weak already.

"Pain Medication?" Coran asked, Lance holding the door to the infirmary open as Shiro and the red head came through, the hospital bed had been prepared for the last few days or so, and was wiped down thoroughly each day, despite the lack of dust in the room, due to the lack of human presence.

"As much as you can give me." Keith answered, not even a hint of joking in his voice.
