We arrived at the apartment after a long hour ride. I got out of the car pulling a small suitcase along with me. I took a small breath and glanced up at the tall building. Around it was a cluster of other similar buildings which also probably belonged to the organisation.
The exterior look was like that of a hotel, light cream coloured while evoking a classy modern image. The building had at least twenty floors, all floors having sliding glass doors that led to a small, nice-looking balcony. Hmm, it would have been cool if I could get an apartment for myself here.
By the time I finished analysing the place where I'll temporarily be staying, the other three agents were already going inside. They either forgot the fact that they have to show me where I'll be staying or they did not care.
I dragged my suitcase and rushed to their side as we took the elevator. Cooky got off on the second floor while Shooky got out on the fifth one. Should I be following Castiel when he also gets off the elevator or not? He didn't tell me anything yet.
The elevator's door opened on the seventh floor and Castiel got out. I was going to open my mouth when I saw him taking my suitcase with him. I followed behind silently.
We reached an apartment with the number 66 on the door. He put my suitcase down beside the door. "Judy Winter. That's the name of the agent who has been assigned to protect you and with whom you'll be staying. Mr Ford thought you may be more comfortable with a girl to stay by your side."
With that said, he walked away, till the end of the hall and went in the last apartment to the left. I made a grimace as I stared at the door. Did I have to do this alone? That was so awkward, I thought as I knocked on the door. Anyway, since it was a girl, maybe she would be more friendly compared to the other scary-looking men, I reassured myself.
The door opened. I was going to say hello but I didn't get a chance as the girl simply left the door open for me to enter and walked away.
I walked in hesitatingly with a stunned face as my eyes followed the girl who went to the kitchen. She seemed quite tall, around 5'9 ft, with a black bob hairstyle. She seemed so intimidating, definitely older than me. Perhaps I had thought wrong; she had no friendly vibe.
I approached her and cleared my throat a bit. "Hi, I'm Haelyn Carter," I introduced myself while giving a tentative smile and offering my hand.
She was mixing something in a blender and glanced up at me for the first time. No smile of her face. She looked at me up and down, in a seemingly judging way and her eyes again returned to my face. "I know. Your room is to the left," she said and her eyes went back to the blender.
Okay, no handshake. My hand returned to my side awkwardly. I turned around, grabbed my suitcase and headed to my room.
I opened the door and entered. I put my suitcase near the bed and glanced around. The room was plain white and seemed bare, with only a bed, a wardrobe and a small table beside the bed. Anyway, it didn't matter since I'd stay here for only a short time, I hoped.
I opened my suitcase and took out the files I dumped in it, in a rush. I needed to get back to work now. I walked out of the room, closing the door and passed by the kitchen when I heard Judy speaking on the phone.
"-but I really wanted to go with the team back to Canada. Instead, I'm stuck babysitting someone who can't protect herself."
Oh...
Okay, don't be judgemental.
Don't be judgemental.
