i caught your eye
from afar in this
crowded place and
it's been a while.
the noises around us
for an instant shut
down and all i hear
galaxies crashing
and black holes bursting
and for a second my
ears seem to be bleeding
but they aren't. i can
see the pretty smile on
your face and grass on
your hair and can feel my
chin rest on the dip
between your neck
and shoulder that fit
like a puzzle. my hands
are suddenly entangled
in your soft hair
and now i'm
sitting in a movie hall
and your coppery eyes
are the screen that take
me back to the summer
of when i used to be
sixteen. i blink and
i am brought back to
the reality – where
i'm in this crowded
place and your
caramel skin is too far
for my fingertips. i
smile at you and
i don't know if you
smile back but i know
you did feel what i
felt for an instant.
an instant so short
that you might not
even realise you felt
it, but you did. you did
because i know that we
used to be something.
like soulmates. for a
short period of time.
instantaneous soulmates.
