A few hours later, Duncan and I decided we'd go check up on my mom to see how she was doing. When we got to my house I accidentally knocked on the door and forgot that I was a ghost, my mom took a moment to open the door to see nobody there. She looked sleep deprived and angry.
"Whoever knocked I will give you 3 seconds to come out before I go out there and MAKE YOU come out!" She shouted glaring around the front yard. "Miss, nobody has even stepped on your front yard in weeks, I think you should really go see a shrink" my neighbor said getting up front his front porch and leaning over his fence. "Don't try to make me look crazy. You're probably the one that knocked don't make me go over there, this better be the last time this happens!" My mother responded before slamming the door.
Seeing my mom this way made me realize the pain I had caused people, I was selfish to have left her behind knowing well that she loved me deeply. I guess Duncan had picked up on the fact that I was feeling sad because he held my hand and look at me before saying "Don't be sad, it's not your fault, I should've known better than to have thought that Courtney was pregnant" then he grew silent.
What did he mean that he should have known better than to have thought that Courtney was pregnant? Then it hit me, she wasn't pregnant after all?!!! "Are you telling me that she played me?" I said feeling heated.-Duncan's POV-
That's right I hadn't told her that Courtney had lied about the pregnancy... here we go.
"Yeah, turns out she wasn't pregnant, she lied to everyone..." I told her, scared of her reaction. She looked at me with the same crazy eyes she had looked at me the day that I had pulled her off of Courtney Freshmen year. She released my hand and vanished after taking a few steps away from me. "Gwen?" I said walking on the grass trying to figure out where she had gone.
I figured she just needed some space so I decided to continue to check on her mom. I went through the front door, it reminded me of how it felt breaking and entering houses in middle school. I couldn't find her mom in the living room but I did find multiple bottles of Hennessy and wine on the living room table, and kitchen counters. So I decided to look through other rooms, bedrooms in particular and I found her. Not in her room. But I'm Gwen's room looking through her baby photos.
First day of Middle School.
And even her first play date... with of course Trent.
Her mom was bawling her eyes out and I couldn't help but place my hand on her shoulder to try and bring her comfort, because I still wasn't use to the whole death thing, I still felt alive and like I had a job to comfort her mom.
Her mom quickly looked to the right and mumbled through her tear "G-Gwen?". I removed my hand from her shoulder as fast as I could. "Come back. Please come back." She said but I couldn't, I knew I couldn't go back to her. No matter what.-Gwen's POV-
How could she? We had been best friends in elementary and she decided to turn her back on me AND lie to my face years later as if we were nothing at all.
I found myself at her doorstep, not really surprised that she hadn't moved even after all these years. I teleported into her bathroom where I found her on her knees in a corner, she had been crying. I stood there staring at her trying to stay mad but I just couldn't, not when she looked like this. So I sat next to her on the floor and saw her clutching on something, I looked closer. It was a bottle of pills. I was just about to take away the bottle when I was teleported back to Hell.
"What just happened?" I said standing in front of the man in the white tux. "You can not interfere with fate" he said shaking his head. "What do you mean by..." before I could finish my sentence Courtney appeared right in front of me.Oh Hell No.
