"Y/n.... we're moving."
The words rang in my head like a loud bell.
My eyes widened and I felt my lip start to quiver. But I didn't cry. I was too shocked.
I glanced down at my wrist. My mothers hand was wrapped around it. I slowly wrapped my other hand around my mother's wrist and pulled her hand off my arm before taking a couple slow paces back.
"Tell me you're kidding. You have to be kidding."
Mom looked at me with what appeared to be tears in her eyes. "Y/n... y/n i'm so sorry."
I felt tears start to well in my eyes. But rage was quickly building up inside. "Sorry? Sorry doesn't cut it! It - it doesn't even begin to! Things are just starting to work out with my acting and - and Kassandra's schooling, and now you're telling me we have to leave?"
"Y/n, I understand that but it's for the best overall and-"
"No!" I spun around and ran to my room, slamming the door shut and locking it before dropping my stuff, collapsing against the door and letting all my tears out as I slid to the floor.
"Y/N REESE, OPEN THIS DOOR RIGHT NOW!" I heard as a first pounded against the wall.
"Go away!" I cried.
"YOU KNOW WHAT Y/N, I'M TIRED OF YOU MAKING THIS ALL ABOUT YOU. OUR FAMILY DOESN'T HAVE A CHOICE. I UNDERSTAND YOU'RE MAD, BUT THAT'S OKAY, KID, THATS OKAY. WE HAVE TO DO THIS AND YOU HAVE TO SUCK IT UP."
"Go away, go away, go AWAY!!!" I screamed, tears streaming down my face as I slammed my fists against the ground.
Silence.
"I want your room cleaned before you go to bed." And then footsteps vanishing down the hall.
I stood up, taking deep breaths before I slammed my hand against my alarm, sending it flying across the room before crashing against the wall with a mess of parts.
I angrily threw everything into my closet before collapsing on my bed and falling asleep in a matter of minutes.

THE NEXT MORNING
June 2020I woke up with a sore hand and a headache. But I didn't want to get up so I pulled my phone from beneath my pillow.
My stomach felt angry as I debated telling my friends about the move. But they'd find out eventually anyway, so I decided to just suck it up.
I pulled out my phone and opened texts. I scrolled through, and one name stood out to me and pricked my heart like a thorn.
Megan.
A few days after 9th grade started, we had a huge argument. It was bad. We haven't talked since then. At all.
Instead, I'd gone to my old friends for comfort. We didn't hang out as much but we still texted a lot. Of course I made new friends in high school, but... I just didn't bond with them in the same way. 9th grade was screwed up. So I went to the people I felt I could trust most first.
