"Mrs. Drew, you have a call on line one," said Daniella, her assistant.
Amina Drew was the CEO of the best gossip and fashion magazine in the city. She was beautiful and successful. She started the company out of the small apartment above her parent's garage to owning a building in Downtown Detroit.

The business was cut-throat, and you always had to stay ahead of the game, or your ship would sink. Amina played hardball.

She grew up on the east side of Detroit with her mother, father, and three other siblings Lucii, Mario, and Navina.  They were once a very close family, but Amina's life was really her job until Alex Mayfield. He was the sexiest man in the state of Michigan and one of the most eligible bachelors in the city. He stood five-foot-eleven, dark chocolate smooth skin, pearly white teeth, very tone muscular body, he had these hazel eyes with a small hint of green, he was like no man Amina had ever seen before.

Alex worked as a real estate agent and he was actually one of the best in the state. He sold homes to some of the exclusive client's like basketball players, lawyers, doctors. Amina and Alex would cross paths and that would be the domino effect that would take her life to places she wouldn't imagine.

"Daniella, tell me who's on the call as well, I don't like to go into conversations without knowing whom I'm speaking with," said Amina in a stern tone.

"I'm sorry Ms. Drew, Phoenix Reid is on line one."

Phoenix is Amina's best friend and also her Lawyer. Phoenix and Amina met in college at a party, and clicked and have been besties ever since. Phoenix wasn't from Detroit, she was from a small town in Georgia, and she was something else. She was model material with her long legs, jet black beautiful long hair, big brown eyes and she had this mole right above her lip. Her mother was African American and her dad was Hispanic. So, she has this cute mocha skin tone.

"Phe, how are you today,"  said Amina

"I need a drink, I'm thinking an apple martini and some boneless wings. I've been swamped with cases today, and the court had me going crazy," said Phoenix as she laughed sarcastically.

"It sounds like you need something a little stronger like Torryn."

" Yeah, maybe after a few martinis I'll call him up and he'll come to sweep me off my feet."

"Scary Mary, why won't you just invite him out for drinks tonight. It's Friday, let your hair down."

Phoenix knew Amina was right, she was always working and working. She never had time for a love life.  Torryn James was a colleague of her's.  He worked for the prosecutor's office.
He was six-foot-three, and built like a tank with peanut butter brown skin, almond-shaped eyes, and he had thick eyebrows and dark brown curly hair. He was sexy, very charismatic, and stern which Phoenix really liked. It was just one thing stopping her from approaching Torryn and that was his girlfriend of three years Essence Samuels. She heard about their on-again, off-again situation, and she respected people's partners and relationships.

"He's in a situation, now if it's a group thing then maybe, but I don't need the drama."

"Well, we're single and not getting younger, work can wait until Monday."

"Okay, since you're such a party girl, what do we have planned this weekend? "

"Soooo, I have a benefit to attending on Saturday night and I was hoping you would come with me. It's an open bar and their serving dinner," said Amina

"I hate work events, I don't even want to go to the events, my company host. You said fun not work fun"

"But the catch is that this a celebrity event and a lot of exclusive people will be there, maybe even potential clients. I'll get your nails and toes done, and buy lunch for the next week," said Amina as she laughed hoping her bribe worked.
