Chapter 33: Higher Stakes, Higher Risks

Three weeks later...

Calius, the lone survivor, is scared and anxious. Demo can attack Sector C at any moment and he has a mere sixth of his former forces.

Calius: "I-I can't..."

Calius looks out the nearby window.

Calius: "I'm merely a fraction of our former glory. No matter what happens, I will-"

In an instant, Calius receives a shock that knocks him unconscious.

???: "You will go anyways."

Meanwhile...

The heroes are still in the infirmary after what happened in Sector D. Hammerhead is currently getting his augmentations repaired while Kyoya and Julie remain bedridden.

Chase: "(awkwardly) Yeah, they should be able to handle themselves now. I'll be with you for Sector C."

Julie: "(in pain) Hopefully Calius won't have such an annoying augmentation either."

Lisa is currently thinking about that body they saw being built in Sector D.

Hammerhead: "Something on your mind?"

Lisa: "Just that thing we saw in the west wing. What was that even for?"

Kyoya: "I-I don't want to know."

Chase's father enters the room.

Boss: "Chase, Lisa, head over to Sector C."

Lisa: "We're on the way."

They follow him out of the room.

Chase: "We'll be back to give you an update."

Julie: "(in pain) We'll be waiting."

They head for the teleporter.

A short while later...

The two of them arrive in a dark green version of the usual base and are already almost at the office,

Lisa: "But do you think we'll have to go in today? The others aren't finished recovering."

Chase: "I doubt that. They could live with one of us out, but not three."

They step inside the office to see a young woman in red camo awaiting them at her desk.

Woman: "Welcome."

They close the door behind them.

Commander: "Call me Commander."

Lisa: "O-Okay."

Chase: "Is this about the final assault?"

Commander: "Yes. We know about how the rest of your team is recovering,but we had to talk about this one odd detail about Calius."

Lisa: "Odd detail?"

Commander: "By now, he would've deployed what few troops he has left to protect the mountains of Sector C, but he hasn't reacted at all."

Chase: "Huh?"

Commander: "Sector C is pretty much unguarded and that's more concerning."

Lisa: "Because it could be an ambush or something like that?"

Commander: "But that's why I won't take any chances. The others should finish recovering soon. Once they do, we deal with Sector C and free this world from those bastards once and for all."

Chase/ Lisa: "Okay!"
