Dipper Pines set his things down in the small hallway that led to both the stairs to the attic and the living room. He was back home in the Mystery Shack. It had been, what, ten years since he had returned? It seemed like more than that.
A whistle came from beside him. "Soos really left this place in mint condition, didn't he?" a female voice spoke. It belonged to his twin sister, Mabel. (Though she was a minute or so older.)
The last time the two had visited Gravity Falls, their two Grunkles, Ford and Stan, were the dynamic duo. They had left to go explore the world shortly after the twins had turned thirteen— probably a month or so after Bill had died.
But that was the past, and it was supposed to stay in the past. Now Dipper and Mabel has to take over the shack and run it by themselves. Mabel would take Stan's place as Mr. Mystery (she wanted to keep it the same in order to preserve the legacy) and Dipper would continue, and perhaps further, Ford's research.
Dipper wanted to focus his studies on the Cipher brothers. His experience with them had been extraordinary, and he wondered just where they had come from and if they had ancestors. He wanted to know everything about them.
After Dipper had organized his bedroom and got himself situated, he immediately went to check out the lab; Ford's lab. He waved his hand in front of his face to clear out any dust in the air as he descended the floors in the old elevator. The lab didn't seem to have much aging, seeing as the temperature was insanely low. A few cobwebs here and there, yes, but nothing more.
Dipper let out a nostalgic sigh. He remembered when he would sit on a stool and watch Ford work at his desk, asking questions and pointing out things that the elder's eyes couldn't spot.
Dipper set his research laptop down on the desk and grabbed a nearby broom. He set out to clean the place a bit before getting down to business.
He knew that Bill and Will were alternates, but also brothers by DNA. He also knew that they had guardians; an uncle named Tad Strange and his assistant, Liz, who was in debt to the Cipher Family. He didn't know about any other family members, if they had any. They probably had parents, seeing as they had been children before. Dipper had spoken briefly to Tad following the burial, and he had learned that the twins did have an older brother and parents at one time, but the the older brother had murdered the parents before the twins could even remember them. Then he had disappeared.
So that left Dipper with almost nothing to go off of. Perhaps there was one thing, and only one.
Before Bill was buried, Tad allowed a biopsy of his body. During that time, Ford had taken some of his blood to be used in the future, though he never used it. Maybe now it could come in handy.
Dipper took the vial of yellow substance (Bill's blood) and ran it through the identification machine. While that was going, Dipper surfed through Bill's updated file, last updated shortly before Ford left. There was not much information that Dipper wasn't familiar with, so it was a quick read-through.
The machine let out a small noise to signal that it was done processing the information. Dipper opened the laptop and plugged one of his many USB chords into the identification machine and his computer. After a few seconds of downloading the data, (fast computer), Dipper found himself face to face with lines and lines of data.
"So much data for only one blood lineage," he muttered to himself as he scrolled through. The lines were all written in code, but since Dipper was smart, he was able to tell what was what.
Dipper's eyes scanned the screen, searching past all the normal information, such as blood type and age. He attempted to ignore the fact that Bill's age was listed as over ten eons. He finally reached the section that listed others with the same genes. It started oldest to youngest, so that would be a problem. Dipper scrolled through the list, baffled at how many times the names spread away from Cipher and names that ended in '-ill'. Finally, he reached the bottom of the list and scanned the names with his fingers.
He started with information on Kill, the elder brother of Bill and Will. Upon clicking on his information, Dipper was able to see Kill's age, mood, location, and weather he was alive or not. Of course, there was more, but that was relevant.
Dipper then moved to Will, but basically everything about him except his age was blocked. Dipper shrugged and moved on.
As he was about to click on Bill's profile, his overly charismatic sister jumped on his back.
"Hey bro bro!" she exclaimed.
Dipper cringed a bit at her loud voice. "Mabes, I'm a bit busy," he said as he turned to look at his brunette sister.
Mabel rolled her eyes but quickly brought her attention back to the computer screen. "Whatcha workin on?" she asked bubbly.
Dipper looked back at the computer. "Well, I was going to look up Bill's information using his DNA that Ford collected. Want to have a look with me?" he said with a grin.
Mabel nodded. "Do I?"
Dipper clicked on Bill's name and scanned through his information. One thing caught him of guard.
"Mabel," he muttered. "Do you see this?" he asked, pointing to a line of information.
Mabel's eyes widened. "I do, but is it possible?" she asked.
Dipper shook his head. "One way to find out. Cmon, we might have another houseguest," he said, grabbing his backpack. Mabel took one final glance at the computer before quickly following her brother up the metal stairs.
There were two blaring words on the screen that read Status: Alive.
