The Obvious Trap and the Oblivious Prey:
I woke up to the sunlight streaming through my bedroom window, and I debated closing the curtains and going back to bed.
However, I decided that I wanted to go and talk to Blake about yesterday, and hopefully make him understand why I had acted the way that I had.
I got up and slipped on a yellow sun dress and some yellow sandals to go with it and then I pulled my hair up into a messy bun.
I went over to his house after breakfast and as I was waiting on the doorstep someone stopped and looked at me. It was obvious that they wanted to say something to me, but then they put their heads down and kept walking.
The door opened after the second knock and Blake stood there in a pair of basketball shorts and nothing else.
"Blake, I want to talk to you." I said after I had caught my breath.
"Come on in, Ruby! I was just about to come over to your house and talk to you. I have some important business to discuss with you." he said as he smiled at me.
I followed him into his living room, hoping that this news was good news that he had to tell me.
Once we were sitting on the couch he turned to face me.
"You go first, Blake, mine really isn't all that important." I shrugged my shoulders and gave him a timid smile.
He nodded and said, "Okay, well Lucian called me last night. He says that there is a pack of rogues that is moving in close to here, and I have to take care of it. Me and some of my pack members will be gone for about a week, and I wanted you to know so that you wouldn't worry about me."
"Are you STUPID?!" I half shouted and raised my voice all the way at the end.
"What do you mean, Ruby?" he looked completely shocked by my outburst and confusion filled his eyes.
"Blake, think about this! You know that usually when going up against a pack of rogues that the civilized pack loses. And another thing is, Lucian called you about this! You know what he said at the party and I think that this is the opportunity that he will make when you leave. He'll magically disappear and then when you get back here I'll be gone or dead!" I couldn't believe that he couldn't see a trap in this.
"Ruby, I know that there are rogues! I've seen them." he said not budging on the issue.
"Yes and those rogues happen to be friends of mine, Blake! They would never intentionally hurt anyone or cross onto anyone's territory unless someone lied to them and said that we had declared war, or that we wanted to kill them! I know them, and they happen to be some of the kindest people that I know." I snapped, "The fact that you can't just listen to me for one second and think things through really bothers me. Come on, Blake, you know how sneaky Lucian is!"
“Lucian has never been that great of a liar, Ruby!” Blake said in a disbelieving tone, as if he couldn’t find reason for my anger and worry.
“Blake, just listen to me!” I screamed, “For once in your stubborn life just listen.”
My will was crumbling in my rage and I could feel the tears streaming down my face in hot waves.
“I’m listening!” his eyes showed that he wanted to comfort me but he stayed where he was at.
“This has to be one of the biggest traps that I’ve ever seen. You’re so smart, Blake, and I just don’t understand why you can’t see this! Lucian is planning something big, and you’re going to get hurt. I just have this strong gut feeling about this, and I always listen to my instincts because they have always kept me safe!” my wolf was howling her agreement, and I knew that Blake’s wolf could hear her.
