Harry and the Weasleys got word of the assassination attempt on Hermione's life.
"Too bad he failed," said Bill as the group sat around the table.
Harry winced, he knew the group that he came from. They were a small group who called themselves the 'caped crusaders against evil'.
He thought the name was lame, but he knew their heart was in the right place. According to his sources, the man never made it back. He had attempted to hit Hermione with the sectumsempra curse, but missed and only got her ear. After that, it was radio silence.
Harry cringed at the thought of what happened after they took him down.
"His name was Mark Hammond, and he made the ultimate sacrifice," Harry said to Bill, "show him some respect."
Bill realized he had been disrespectful and apologized. Over the next few days, Harry tried to listen for news telling him what happened to Mark, but nothing came. He didn't know the man well, but he knew he had a family in hiding.
Harry decided to make another visit to the graveyard. He grabbed his invisibility cloak and apparated there.
He could see something near Neville's grave, but he wasn't sure what it was. As he moved closer, he nearly vomited.
There lying on the ground was a disfigured corpse of a man. Next to the body was a folded up note. Harry picked it up.
Did you miss me? Did you miss me? Did you miss me? Did you miss me? Did you miss me? Did you miss me?
It was scrolled all over the parchment, and at the bottom was lipstick where she had left her mark.
Harry decided to leave his own mark. He dug a grave nearby and placed the man's body inside. He erected a tombstone and engraved the words, Here lies Mark Hammond, the man who wasn't afraid of Hermione Granger.
Harry said thank you to the man and told him he hoped he found peace in the afterlife, and apparated back home. For months, the notes back and forth became a game to them.
After he had erected the grave, Hermione had left another vial filled with a memory. It was filled with Draco's treatment of the man.
Harry pulled himself out of the pensieve before the memory had finished, and left a note saying, doesn't take much of a man to torture a someone who can't defend himself.
To which she replied, didn't take much of a man to attack an unarmed woman.
The notes continued back in forth in the same manner. It was almost like they enjoyed teasing each other.
Harry knew it was sick, but he couldn't stop. She was the Moriarty to his Sherlock. The more they teased each other, the more they vowed to take the other one down.
Harry knew it was dangerous to be communicating with her, but he started to feel as if she didn't want to take him down. He wondered if she would get bored if she didn't have someone to taunt anymore.
One day, he visited the grave, and there was the usual note from Hermione with a lipstick mark on the envelope, he opened it and a ring with a family crest fell out.
Harry picked it up, and his heart fell. It was the Weasley family crest. He had no idea who it belonged to, he pocketed the ring and apparated back home as soon as he could.
He ran to his wife and instructed her to help him locate everyone in the family. To his relief, everyone showed up. He was so happy to not see anyone missing.
She must have taken it from their home before she burned it down. He set the ring on the table, and Arthur reached out and took it saying it was his and asked Harry where he found it.
