Hermione had nearly forgot where she was for a moment when she woke up. She opened her eyes expecting to see the cell walls. It was still daunting to her that she actually survived that ordeal. She had expected to be executed on the spot.

She jumped when she heard the door opening, but relaxed a little when she saw that it wasn't a death eater or Voldemort. It was servant carrying a tray of food.

The servant didn't make eye contact as she set the tray down on the end table next to Hermione. She turned quickly and scampered out of the room like a frightened cat. Hermione could only imagine the cruelty she faces from Voldemort to be that timid.

She looked at the tray and didn't realize how hungry she was until she saw the assortment of biscuits, sausages and fruit. There was even a kettle with tea, and a small cup.

She devoured every last morsel. Food had never tasted so good in her life. She wondered what Voldemort meant by "the real work starts today".

She finished off the last of the tea and stepped into the small bathroom where she splashed more cold water in her face and looked at her appearance in the mirror.

She was thinner than she remembered. She hadn't properly looked at her appearance in months. There were no mirrors in the cells. Her hair was graying, most likely from stress. Her cheeks appeared more hollow. She hardly recognized her own reflection. She continued to clean up when she heard the servant return to her room.

"Miss?", she said in a mouse like tone, "miss, are you in the bathroom?" Hermione stepped out and when the servant saw her, she quickly dropped her head.

"Miss, the Dark lord is summoning you, he has asked me to bring you. He told me to tell you there are clean robes in the drawer, he says you will not come in muggle clothes." She continued to look down.

Hermione moved to the drawer and opened it revealing dark green robes. "I will be waiting right outside the door when you are ready," she said as she exits leaving Hermione alone in the room to change.

Hermione changed into the robes and stepped out into the study. She nodded at the servant and they walked together in silence.

Only Voldemort could apparate within the walls of the mansion, so they would walk to the drop point. There they would find a portkey that would take Hermione to the location that Voldemort had set up.

Hermione looked at the small mouse like girl next to her when she was about to grab the portkey. "I'm not going with you, he wants you to come alone," she said.

Hermione reached out and grabbed the portkey and felt the rush consume her body as she is hurled upward and disappeared. She landed in a graveyard. She recognized it from when Harry was describing it in 4th year.

Voldemort was standing in front of a grave, not even paying attention to her sudden appearance, but he knew she was there.

She got to her feet unsure of what to do next. "Come here girl," he said not even bothering to look at her. She walked over to him and saw what he was looking at. It was a marked grave with the words 'Merope Gaunt'.

Hermione recognized the name. Dumbledore had told Harry the story of Voldemort's parents. He had said Merope had fallen in love with a muggle, and that she used a love potion on him and bore his child. Once she stopped giving him the potion, he fled from her and went back to his fiance, abandoning her and her child. She had died of a broken heart.

"Do you know who this is, mudblood?" "She was your mother, wasn't she?" "She was a fool," Voldemort said with disgust. "She died for the most pathetic reason. She died for love. Love is weakness mudblood. It is a distraction. There's no room for it. Those who have nothing to lose have the most to gain."
