It was 10:30 when Agatha's alarm rang. Everyone was already up when Agatha groggily got herself out of bed. She headed downstairs to where the other girls were. Hester and Anadil were snuggling on the sofa watching TV. Dot and Kiko we're making breakfast. Nicola was on the couch using her phone and Sophie was at the table texting someone.
"Hey guys"
"Good morning sleepy head." Kiko was putting some toast into the toaster.
"Why are you guys up so early?"
"Did you forget what today is?" Sophie asked from her place at the table.
"Saturday." Agatha took a place at the table in front of Sophie.
"Honey, today is prom." Agatha's eyes widened. She had completely forgotten about today. She groaned loudly. Why? I'm a good person. Why me?
"Go upstairs and change. Breakfast will be ready when you come down." Dot flipped a pancake as she gestured her head upstairs.
"And hurry because we have a nail appointment at 11:30!" Sophie yelled as Agatha made her way up the stairs. Agatha walked into her room and shut the door behind her. She looked straight ahead and there he was. She could see him through the barely opened blinds. She walked into her closet and felt like crying. She had planned to go to prom with him and now they were broken up. Isn't this convenient. She wiped her eyes. No more crying. I am going to be happy. I'm spending the day with my friends. I'm going to my senior prom. I only have a week of school left. This is a good thing. (I know that's not how it works but shhh it's for the plot) Agatha got dressed in a black and white flannel shirt over a white tank top paired with ripped jeans and her white converse.
"You can do better than that." Sophie stood leaning against the door frame.
"It's prom and it's hot as hell." Sophie stepped into the closet and handed her some clothes. "Here put this on." She walked out of the closet.
"Also hurry your ass up it's almost 11"
Agatha threw on the outfit Sophie had given her. Might as well begin with an outfit change if I'm going to be positive about this change. She looked at herself in the mirror. She was wearing a burgundy halter top tucked into burgundy and white plaid shorts. The outfit was accented with a small black belt paired with her white converse. She walked into the kitchen.
"Damn, cutie alert!" Dot exclaimed as she walked to the dining table with a plate stacked with pancakes. Agatha blushed and took a seat at the table. They all filed into the kitchen each grabbing breakfast as they took their seats. They ate quickly. They all left the house at around 11:20 to go get their nails done. The girls were going to get into Hester's car when Sophie made a great claim.
"I have my car so the 7 of us don't have to pack into your car."
"Oh thank god." Nicola exhaled. Hester, Anadil, and Dot took Hester's car while Nicola, Kiko, Sophie, and Agatha went in Sophie's car. The gaggle of girls went into the nail salon. Thank god they had made their appointments earlier because it was packed. The rest of the day went by in a blur. They got their nails done, next was hair, and finally makeup.
"Let's go to my house to get ready for prom!" Sophie exclaimed as if she had just discovered the cure for cancer.
"Why not? Let's just stop by my house so I can get my dress and shoes."
"Yeah, me too" Kiko exclaimed from the backseat.
"Same" Nicola responded not looking up from her phone. She was texting Hester to meet at Sophie's house. Sophie's car stopped in front of Agatha's house. Agatha stepped out and ran upstairs. She gathered the dress bag, her shoes, and the clutch (purse) she had picked out. She walked out with her stuff. She set her things down on the porch furniture as she locked the front door. She picked up her stuff and noticed a smallish size navy blue box. She opened it and saw a beautiful corsage. It was made with different sized white flowers and in between the flowers was a navy blue ribbon that matched her dress. She peeled a small note that was taped to the inside of the lid. "I'm sorry things didn't go as planned but a beauty like you deserves the best and only the best. I love you" Agatha closed the box as tears threatened her eyes. She blinked them back I am not ruining my makeup She walked back to the car and sat down.
"Are you ok?"
"Yeah. I'm perfectly fine."
"Ok then." The girls drove off to Kiko's house and so forth. They all arrived at Sophie's house at the same time. Sophie unlocked the door to the enormous house and the girls headed in.
"Come on guys, to my room." (Think of Regina George's room) Sophie led the way up the stairs. The girls stared in awe when she opened the double doors that led to her closet. It's official, Sophie is a clothes fiend. The girls set down their stuff and began to get dressed. Anadil and Hester were done first. Their dresses were simple but beautiful. Anadil's dress was a deep green that stopped just above the knee. Hester's dress was burgundy and floor length with a slit up the leg. Agatha helped Sophie into her princess like dress before getting dressed in her own. Kiko and Dot were zipping each other up. Agatha was the last to get dressed. She stared at herself in the mirror. Her dress was silky and backless. It touched the floor in almost a mermaid tail like style. She was holding the box with the corsage in her hand.
"That is beautiful." Sophie came up from behind her. "Did you buy it for yourself."
"No...Tedros bought it for me. He left it out on the porch for me to find." Sophie read the note that was taped to the lid.
"Honey.."
"I'm fine, truly. Let's just forget about him and enjoy this. One of our last days together before we're off to college"
Sophie smiled at her stubborn best friend. Sophie got a text. She clapped her hands to get everyone's attention.
"Ok ladies, it's 6:30 which means we have 30 minutes before the limo gets here and takes us to the school."
"Limo?" Nicola gave a questioning glance to the blonde.
"Yep, guilted my parents into getting a limo for me and the squad but they decided to go with their boyfriends so we got a limo."
"Holy shit"
"Wow"
"So..why are we waiting here let's go get a little pregame started." Sophie exclaimed. The girls headed downstairs. Agatha was still staring at the corsage.
"Here let me help you." Sophie came up from her side and took the corsage into her hands. She fastened it onto Agatha's wrist.
"There. Beautiful." Agatha's heart hurt. She hugged Sophie.
"No crying darling. We can't mess up that make up. You actually look decent. Let's keep it that way."
"Hey!"
"I'm being honest, wait I want to try something." Sophie walked over to one of her many drawers. She pulled out a little box. Inside the box were little butterfly earrings with a little strings of beads hanging from them.
"Wow, they're beautiful."
"Wear them. Your dress needs a little extra. It's prom for God's sake." Agatha pinned the earrings on. She looked at herself in the mirror and loved how the earrings complimented her simple dress. Both girls walked down the stairs hand in hand. They joined their friends in a little pregame. Agatha needed it if she was being honest. The nerves were real. Sophie's phone beeped with the alert that the limo was outside. It was 7:10 when the girls stepped into the limo. Sophie liked being fashionably late. The arrived at the school at 7:25. They got out of the limo and eyes were on them. They were a group of very attractive girls and none of them with a piece of arm candy on their shoulder. People, aka guys, were definitely interested. They walked into the high school auditorium. The theme was fairytale and the decoration committee had definitely achieved that. The girls immediately hit the dance floor.
"Don't forget to vote for your 2019 Prom Queen and King!" A voice spoke through the loudspeaker. The girls decided to be responsible and vote now. Agatha's heart dropped when she read the ballot. First, was Sophie and Hort (personally I don't ship Hophie but it's for the plot) Next was her and Tedros. Only a handful of people knew they had broken up. She saw a few other couples and then Kiko and Tristan. If she was being honest, Agatha had kinda forgotten that Kiko and Tristan we're dating. She checked the box next to their names and threw her card into the box. She took a deep breath and walked away from the ballot box. She was waiting for her friends to vote when she spotted him. He was wearing a navy blue tux with a white dress shirt and a navy blue tie. Pinned on his tux was a matching corsage like the one pinned on her wrist. He was standing in the center of the dance floor with a bunch of his friends. Agatha wanted to run. Today was her day but these feelings were hard to understand. On one hand she wanted to go over to him and hug him and kiss him and tell him that she loves him too but the other half wanted to walk up to him and slap him across the face for being a douche and kissing Beatrix. She decided on neither. Her friends had come back from voting and they decided to go out and dance. Agatha danced 3 songs enthusiastically before feeling like she was going to die.
"I'm going to go get water!"
"What?!"
"Water!"
"Ok!" Kiko gave her two thumbs up as Agatha walked towards the refreshment table. She picked up a water bottle and was taking a sip when she heard a familiar voice.
"Hey," Agatha choked on her water. She began to cough.
"Are you ok?"
"Yeah I'm fine." Tedros grabbed a water bottle from the table.
"We need to talk, about us"
"Can we do this later?"
"Agatha,"
"Tedros it's prom, please, please, don't make me listen to this story. I can't. Not right now and maybe never." Agatha grabbed her water and walked away leaving Tedros alone. She headed back to her friends. She hugged Sophie.
"Hey are you ok?"
"No, not really"
"Wanna talk about it?"
"Please"
"Hey, me and Agatha are going to go to the bathroom." She informed the girls before they walked out of the auditorium. The girls headed to the bathrooms. Agatha barely made it through the door before she started panting. She held back the tears. She was wearing makeup and couldn't ruin it.
"I-I don't think I can. I have to go. Please, can we go home?"
"Hey it's ok. Breathe. Let's just wait until they announce Prom Queen and King. I think me and Hort have a good chance. She smiled widely.
Agatha agreed. Sophie seemed to genuinely want to see if she won. Agatha didn't want to take this away from her. She took a few more deep breaths before they walked back.
"Can the nominees for King please come up on stage? Please give a big round of applause for Hort Brooke, Tedros Pendragon, Derek Young, Tristan Yara and Chaddick Avalon!" Applause erupted as the 5 boys walked onto the stage.
"Now, it's time for the princesses. Can I please have a round of applause for Sophie Evilé, Agatha Woods, Rachel Grey, Kiko Orakí, and Beatrix Joulie. Agatha's heart raced as she stepped up on stage. This was honestly a surprise. She had never expected to be a nominee for prom queen. She had been here for barely a semester. She lined up in between Kiko and Sophie. Kiko noticed her nerves and held her hand. She gave it a gentle squeeze before returning her attention to the girl with the microphone. A different girl came onto the stage holding a single white envelope.
"Your 2019 Camelot High Prom King is...drum roll please...Tedros Pendragon!" Tedros stepped forward as a crown was placed on his golden locks. He looks beautiful Agatha's heart raced. This boy is really going to give me heart problems at 17. "And you're 2019 Camelot High Prom Queen is...drum roll please...Agatha Woods!" Agatha felt her heart drop into her stomach. She stepped forward and a tiara was placed in her hair.
~
She looks just as beautiful as ever. Tedros has spent most of his time at prom ogling at her beauty. The dress she had picked had really complemented her skin tone. Her hair was up in a bun. There were only slight curls left out. She was magnificent. Tedros would have been ecstatic if the circumstances were different.
"And now for the King and Queen's first dance!" Everyone cleared a circle in the center of the dance floor. Tedros offered his hand to his queen and she took it. He bowed and gave her a gentle kiss on the knuckles. He could see her slight blush. They walked down the stage steps hand in hand. They stepped into the spotlight as the music played. He rested his hands on her waist and she placed her hands around his shoulders. He was so distracted by the moment that he didn't hear the whispers.
"They look so cute" "I mean I guess."
"I heard he cheated on her with Beatrix" "they're just doing this for the clout."
Tedros looked down at Agatha. She looked up at him and looked directly into his eyes. Her eyes were glassy with tears.
"I'm sorry but I can't." She ripped away from him and quickly made her way through the crowd and out the exit.
"Agatha" he whispered quietly as she disappeared into the crowd. He tried to chase her but there were too many people. He made it to the hallway when he saw the tiara lying on the floor. He picked it up and took it with him as he ran to the parking lot. He stood at the school's front entrance but he couldn't find her anywhere. He didn't want to go back. He found his car and drove. The tiara resting on the passenger seat.
~
Sophie and the girls were panting. Chasing after someone in heels and tight dresses was not easy. They stood at the front of the school.
"Where is she?" asked Dot. They heard sniffles coming from the left side of the school entrance. They turned and saw their best friend. Her head was leaning against the concrete pillar and her makeup was running.
"I'll call the limo" Sophie stepped away to make a phone call. Everyone enveloped Agatha in a hug. She clung to Kiko as the tears poured down her face. No words came out of her mouth as they waited for the limo. Agatha stared blankly at the floor. No emotion on her face other then the tears that made their way down her face. The limo dropped all the girls off at their houses. Sophie and Agatha were the only ones left. They got dropped off at Agatha's house. It was around 8:30 when the girls entered Agatha's house. Callis was in the living room watching tv when the girls got home.
"How was pro-" Sophie quickly shook her head as she followed Agatha up the stairs. The girls walked into Agatha's room and almost immediately Agatha collapsed on her bed. She couldn't move. She didn't have the energy. She didn't have the will to do so. Sophie managed to get her changed into her pjs. Sophie has turned on the tv. Agatha were watching Netflix while Sophie helped her. Sophie had wiped off Agatha's makeup. She helped unpin Agatha's hair. Sophie then left Agatha alone as she went to change into comfy clothes herself. Agatha hadn't said a word in the entire time they had been at her house. She was just silently watching the tv with tears in her eyes. Sophie was extremely worried about Agatha. Sophie had never really been the best best friend. She was self involved most of the times. She cared about Agatha when they were younger but she had never shown it. She never knew how to show affection to Agatha. Agatha was very reluctant about being showed love. That's why Sophie was having such a difficult time trying to help. She didn't know what to do or where to start. She just wanted Agatha to be ok.
~
Tedros was not ok. He drove to his house in complete silence. He was lost in thought. Sneaking glances at the crown beside him. He arrived home and almost immediately felt like his heart was going to collapse. His mom was out with Lancelot so he was home alone. He climbed up the stairs defeated. He stepped into his room and couldn't contain the tears anymore. He didn't know why he was so fucking emotional. Maybe because he had lost a wonderful girl for something that wasn't his fault. I mean it was kinda his fault but he didn't kiss Beatrix. He didn't kiss her back. He never wanted their lips to touch. She ambushed him but Agatha would never believe that. Agatha wouldn't want to hear the pity side of his story. He walked over to his bed and let his body collapse. He had no energy to do anything other than cry. The tears were hot and flowing endlessly. He missed her so much. It's been a day and he already felt like he was going to die without her. He stared at the tiara on his desk. His heart ached for Agatha. He had never felt like this for anyone before. Not for Sophie or the previous girlfriends he had. He went on his phone and was met with his wallpaper of Agatha. The tears rushed once more. He opened Instagram and went on her profile. She had deleted the pictures they had together. I guess I should do the same Tedros opened his camera roll and began to scroll through. His eyesight was blurry as he began to delete the pictures one by one. He felt as if his heart was going to burst. He saw the picture they had taken at the theater. The picture he had gotten of her while she was soaked after Sophie had tripped the waitress. Tedros smiler slightly at the memories. He scrolled higher up through the pictures and found some of their friendship. Before either had decided to act on their romantic feelings. There was one of Agatha holding a fork into the air as if it was a trident. God he was going to miss this girl so much. Eventually the blonde boy cried himself to sleep for the second night in a row.
~
Agatha awoke in her bed surrounded by popcorn kernels and a snoring Sophie next to her. The sun was peeking in through her blinds and the birds were chirping outside. Agatha checked her phone, it was 1:47pm. This was not unusual for the black haired teen. She tried to wake Sophie up but she just wouldn't budge. Agatha gave up and got in the shower. She felt disgusting after last night. Sophie had tried to do her best but it was hard to completely clean up Agatha's sobbing mess. Agatha thoroughly washed all the hairspray out of her hair and all of the makeup off her face. She stepped into the closet and saw it. There it was, hanging on the edge of the hamper. She changed into her clothes trying to avoid making eye contact with it. I guess I should give it back. She picked up the jacket and took one last whiff of it. Her eyes watered at the memory of him giving it to her. She didn't think their relationship would end so quickly and I'm such a stupid manner. She blinked back the tears and put on a brave face. She folded the jacket into a neat square and headed downstairs. She was determined. Determined not to cry and determined not to back away. She walked out of her house and to the next door over. She walked up the driveway holding her head high. She hesitated when she reached the door. She knocked on the wooden door taking a deep breath as she awaited an answer. The blonde boy opened the door. His hair was disheveled. His shirt was stained with tears. His eyes were red and puffy. Agatha so desperately wanted to reach her hand out and hold his face and pull him into a kiss, but she couldn't. He wasn't his anymore.
"I-I came to bring you this." Agatha held up the letterman jacket.
"Thanks," Tedros responded dully. Not trying to pull a facade. He was clearly sad.
"Well that's it, i guess i should-"
"Wait I have something for you too" Agatha's interest peaked. She didn't remember having given him anything. He left her alone at the doorway and went up stairs. He came back a minute later with a crown in his hands.
"You should keep this." He handed her tiara and then shut the door. Agatha really felt like collapsing now. She walked back home determined to be fine. She walked upstairs into her room and saw that Sophie was awake. She pulled the blonde into a hug and sobbed.
"Hey what's wrong?" Agatha said no words as she let the tiara plop on the bed next to her.
"Tedros kept it for me. I went over to return his jacket and he gave me this. Sophie he looked so heartbroken. I know he broke my heart but you don't know how bad I wanted to kiss him. He looked like a kicked puppy dog. I just wanted to hold him but I couldn't. He doesn't deserve it and neither do I. I don't know why this hurts so much. I never cried this much over any of my exes. I love him so much. I don't know if I can do this."
Sophie just listened. Sometimes she didn't have to talk. Listening was all Agatha needed right now. She didn't need Sophie's pity she just needed some comfort.
~
Tedros spent most of his Sunday crying, eating, and sleeping. He awoke Monday morning to the sound of his alarm. He should be excited. It was his last week of school, but all he could think of were having to be in the same room as the girl who's heart he had broken. To be fair she also broke his heart but enough said. He got dressed not giving a single fuck about his wardrobe. He threw on some sweats and an old T-shirt. He grabbed his backpack from the floor and headed downstairs. He ate a quick bowl of cereal for breakfast and then drove to school. Tedros parked his car in the parking lot at the front of the school and headed to his locker. He opened the door and was immediately greeted with a picture of Agatha's beautiful face. He felt like breaking down but he was at school. So he couldn't, he had a reputation. He took the picture down grabbed his textbooks and shut the door. He headed to Pollux's class. He awkwardly awaited Agatha's arrival. Eventually the bell rang, then the late bell, and still no Agatha. Pollux was doing attendance when he called out Agatha's name. Silence. Eventually Nicola spoke up and said that Agatha had stayed home sick. She skipped school because of me. The day went by and Tedros felt like a ghost. One minute class was starting the next thing he knew school was over. The drive home was another silent one. He drove home, mind blank and emotionless. He got home and headed upstairs. He finished his homework. Ate dinner. Showered and then went to bed. Just like a routine. He continued that routine until the end of the week. By Friday he was just a shell of the man who he once was. He felt hollow. He was graduating tomorrow but there was no joy in his life. He had been looking forward to spending his summer with his wonderful girlfriend now he had nothing. Other than college in August. He went to bed on Friday ignoring all his friends invites to end of the year parties and just slept.
~
Agatha was doing better. She had gotten over the breakup and was focusing on herself. It was the last day of school, Agatha was confident she had passed her finals, and she was going to a great college. Life was pretty good. Except when she thought of Tedros. He didn't seem like himself. He seemed...empty. Sure he was the one that broke her heart but that didn't mean Agatha didn't care about him. I mean he was her first real love. She had initially skipped school on Monday but after watching a bunch of rom coms mainly Legally Blonde, and the Princess Bride, Clueless, and 10 things I hate about, Agatha had realized that she shouldn't let a boy bring her down. She was ready. She woke up Tuesday refreshed but on her best outfit and headed to school. She wasn't expecting a big ordeal but she was fine with the compliments she had received. She walked into Pollux's class confident. She sat at the lab table next to Tedros and didn't panic. He didn't seem to give one shit. Not in a mean way but in an I have no soul kind of way. The day went by quick like usual and eventually the entire week had passed. Each day she had gotten more and more worried about Tedros. He was dressed in sweats and old T-shirt's something rare for the football player. Agatha had tried to push her worries down. They weren't dating anymore. They weren't friends. She couldn't hug him and ask him what's wrong no matter how bad she wanted to. She put him out of her mind, or she tried. Today was Friday, tomorrow she would officially be out of high school. She would receive her diploma and officially be a college student. She went to bed early and woke up refreshed the next day. She showered and did her hair. Sophie showed up a while later to do her makeup and get dressed. Sophie was wearing an off the shoulder dusty pink dress. It was just above the knee. Agatha on the other hand was wearing a short light blue wrap dress. The girls had helped each other get ready in their dresses and caps and gowns. They took some mandatory end of year selfies. The two drove to school an hour early as asked by their councilor. They did one last practice run as the parents started to fill the stands. Agatha took her seat close to the front. Agatha's middle name apparently canceled out her last name. (Agatha Goode Woods) Their principal did the welcoming speech, and soon people started walking up the stage. Agatha heard Sophie's name called, she cheered for her friend. Agatha's name followed close after. She walked on stage, grabbed she diploma, shook the administrators hands, walked down the steps, took her seat, and then stared blankly at the diploma. Wow. Agatha was entertaining her mind with whatever little distraction she could think of. She didn't realize how boring this would be. She was blanked off until she heard his name. Her interest peaked when she heard Tedros Pendragon. She looked up to the blonde boy on stage. He had a fake smile plastered on his face. Most people wouldn't notice but Agatha did. She also noticed the bags under his eyes. She blinked back the tears that threatened her eyes. Eventually the last name was called and the closing remarks were said. All the seniors threw their caps into the hair and cheered. They were no longer high school student. Agatha went over to her friends for one final hug. She smiled surrounded by happiness at this moment. Tedros was out of her mind and she was happy. Taking in this one last moment as a child. She was becoming an adult. Agatha was glad this had been the end. It was a good way to end things. Maybe not 100% but a sure 94% good way to end her senior year. Agatha was happy. The world was good. Her friends were good. She was going to miss this. Not just her friends, not just high school, but everything. Even Tedros. They boy who had caused her as much pain as he did joy. Goodbye Tedros, and goodbye high school
